Soldiers Field Drive extension: The project aims to extend Soldiers Field Drive to Hwy. 6 and add a right-turn lane from Hwy. 6 to Soldiers Field Drive.

  • Timeline: September 2024-TBD

  • Cost: $3.19 million

  • Funding sources: 2019 Sugar Land bond and 2023 Fort Bend County bond

Comfort Foodies soft opens Missouri City location

Comfort Foodies, a Latin-Carribean and southern soul food fusion restaurant, has soft opened its new Missouri City location, officials announced in an Aug. 12 news release.

On the menu: The restaurant offers oxtails with rice and beans, porkchops, southern catfish and empanadas with a variety of fillings, according to its website. It also features peach cobbler and bread pudding for dessert.

The new location will have a full bar with specialty cocktails and an expanded frozen empanada line.

Meet the owners: Elsa and Jeff Matthews founded Comfort Foodies in 2020 as a food truck and catering services, according to its website.

The brand blends cuisines from their own heritages and upbringings, including Elsa Matthews’ Dominican and New York roots and Jeff Matthews’ southern soul food, according to the news release.

Houston Airport System unveils renovated IAH Executive Club

The Executive Club at George Bush Intercontinental Airport has recently completed a full renovation, Houston Airport System officials announced in an Aug. 4 news release.

What's new? Operated by SSP America, the IAH Executive Club debuted a new modern look this summer featuring new furniture, fresh paint, updated decor and redesigned seating areas. Per the release, the lounge also features a central food and beverage area that includes buffet service and a dedicated bar.

Additional amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi, a meeting room and televisions, snacks, beverages and reading material.

Who it's for: Located on Level 2 of Terminal D near Gate D12, IAH's Executive Club serves qualifying international passengers flying with British Airways, Emirates and EVA Airlines. Qualified passengers will note access to the IAH Executive Club on their boarding pass, per the release.

Live updates: ERCOT will complete data center audit in late 2026, officials say

The Texas House State Affairs Committee heard from power grid officials; data center developers and industry representatives; local government officials; cybersecurity experts; and utility companies during an Aug. 19 hearing on the growth of data centers in the state. Dozens of Texas residents also testified about the impact of data centers in their communities.

The details: Pablo Vegas, CEO of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, said it will take the grid operator several months to audit about 200 gigawatts of data center proposals. ERCOT will request information from all large and medium-sized data centers that are expected to use at least 25 megawatts of electricity.

ERCOT and the Public Utility Commission were ordered on Aug. 3 to audit all data centers seeking to connect to Texas’ power grid. They anticipate completing that audit in late November or early December, Vegas said.
