Leander families can now explore a new indoor playground concept—Little Leaps Play Café.

The highlights: The Little Leaps Play Café space, which opened Jan. 15,  brings together an indoor play area, community events, bilingual story times and birthday parties. Designed by a mom and for moms, the play cafe is geared towards families with children under six years old, Angela Simpson said in an emailed statement to Community Impact.

“We created Little Leaps to be a warm, welcoming and inclusive space where families can slow down, connect and make meaningful memories together,” Simpson said. “We believe in community, imagination and creating a place where everyone belongs.”

More details: The play space offers drop-in play time for children and babies, birthday party packages, monthly events, weekly themed activities and a cafe stocked with specialty coffee, meals and snacks.

Drop-in play sessions run daily from 9-10 a.m. for $10 per child. Other 2-hour play sessions cost $19 for the first child and $16 for additional children.

Travis County has reinstated a burn ban for unincorporated areas that was lifted Jan. 26.

The Travis County Commissioners Court approved implementing a burn ban effective immediately at its Feb. 10 meeting. The burn ban will last 30 days unless lifted earlier by the Travis County judge or fire marshal.

The update: The burn ban comes after Travis County responded to 20-25 fires Feb. 8, Gary Howell, Travis County Chief Fire Marshal, said at the Feb. 10 meeting.

The ban applies to outdoor burning in unincorporated areas of Travis County, excluding prescribed burns, outdoor welding, cutting, grinding or other hot work operations when conducted in accordance with the Travis County Fire Marshal’s Office guidelines.

Also of note: The Travis County Fire Marshal’s Office is also urging residents to:

• Avoid activities that could generate sparks.
• Use caution when grilling or barbecuing outdoors. Residents should keep a water source or fire extinguisher nearby when doing so.
• Call 911 if they notice a fire that may be out of control.

Central Texas voters in the March 3 primary election will decide who will be the Democratic candidate in the State Board of Education District 5 race in November.

What you need to know: Six candidates have filed to run in the Democratic primary. Mica Arellano is running unopposed in the Republican primary to be a candidate in the November election.

Democratic District 5 incumbent Rebecca Bell-Metereau is not seeking re-election.
