Pharmaceutical venture announces $500M expansion in Northwest Austin

Otsuka ICU Medical LLC announced plans for a $500 million expansion through a new facility and upgrades to its existing facility in Austin, with the goal of improving the long-term supply of IV solutions and supporting new IV products, according to a news release.

What’s happening: Otsuka ICU Medical will expand its existing 700,000-square-foot manufacturing site in Austin with a new 500,000-square-foot facility. The project is meant to help strengthen the supply chain of IV solutions and also bolster the transition to non-DEHP IV solutions containers.

Some context: The expansion is the first major milestone part of the joint venture by ICU Medical Inc. and Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory Inc., which began in 2025. ICU Medical, which is headquartered in California, specializes in the development, manufacturing and sale of medical devices. Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory, which is based out of Japan, is a global IV solutions manufacturing subsidiary of Otsuka Holdings Co.

Project: The project features two express lanes in each direction on US 183, a general-purpose lane, new shared-use paths and more.
Update: Crews are working to complete concrete surface grinding and paving along the main lanes, with various lane closures beginning at 8 p.m.

Burnet Road Mobility Program
Project: The project will feature updated traffic signals, bus stop improvements, shared-use paths and more on Burnet Road between White Horse Trail and MoPac.
Update: All three segments are officially under construction as of early June.

  • Cost: $64 million

  • Funding source: 2016 Mobility Bond


Spicewood Springs Road Regional Mobility Project
Project: 
The project includes widening the two-lane road into a four-lane road with left-turn bays.
Update: Crews adjusted travel routes south of Adirondack Trail in March. 

  • Timeline: 2023-26

  • Cost: $31 million

  • Funding source: city of Austin 2016 Mobility Bond

Blush Bridal Lounge relocates along North Lamar in Austin

Blush Bridal Lounge recently relocated to a larger location along a familiar street. The bridal shop is now selling wedding gowns and accessories at its new North Lamar spot effective July 7, according to a social media post. 

About the business: Erica Janke opened the business in 2009 with more than 20 years of experience in the bridal industry. 

What they offer: The boutique sells gowns and accessories from leading designers, indie labels and international brands, according to its website. Brides can find modern, rustic, timeless and highly embellished styles. The racks are stocked with designers like Lillian West and Calla Blanche and dresses ranging from $1,800-$7,000. 

One more thing: The bridal boutique is hosting a grand opening trunk show July 8-18. The event will showcase collections from Enzoani and Élysée.

Storage facility, Costco renovation: Check out 5 major Austin-area permits filed this week

A storage facility and additions to Dessau Middle School in Austin, along with Costco renovations in Pflugerville, are among the five most expensive projects filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation in the Austin metro this week.

1. Tri-Supply Austin ($13.5 million): This project involves new construction for a warehouse and office spaces.

2. Driftwood Storage ($5.5 million): This project involves expanding an existing self-storage facility by adding seven single-story buildings.

3. Minimax and Max Express ($4 million): This project involves the construction of a new convenience store and car wash with related site work.

4. Dessau Middle School additions ($2.5 million): This project involves a multipurpose room addition with locker rooms and an office, connected to the existing campus.

5. Costco Renovations ($320,000): Improvements to the Pflugerville Costco food court will begin in September. The project includes the removal and replacement of fixtures and finishes.
