Leonard and Helen Johns Park design moves forward with $657K contract

The design work for Leonard and Helen Johns Community Park is moving forward after council approved a firm during the Oct. 6 meeting.

Council members unanimously approved a professional services contract worth $657,800 with MHS Planning & Design for the park’s design.

The overview: The approved contract with MHS Planning and Design will cover the full design and construction plans for the park, which will be used during the bidding process, according to town documents. The documents will be used to implement the master plan for redevelopment of the park.

What else: An update on the design for the park will be provided to the town’s parks board when plans are around 70% complete, according to town documents.

1. Highland Pho & Grill serves Vietnamese cuisine in Highland Village
A new restaurant, Highland Pho & Grill, opened in early October, according to company staff.
The Vietnamese restaurant serves a selection of dishes, including vermicelli bowls, banh mi, pho noodle soup and fried rice. The menu also includes Vietnamese coffee, smoothies and teas.

Flower Mound couple with restaurant experience opens Daytrip Diner in Grapevine

Restaurant owners Jena and Gino Seferi are back in the business of serving breakfast.

The former owners of Morning Edition Cafe in Flower Mound have opened Daytrip Diner in Grapevine, moving into the former location of Waffle Way.

The background: The Seferis sold the cafe in 2023. A text message last year from a former regular at the Flower Mound business told them about Waffle Way closing. Since taking over the business in November 2024, the two have remodeled the former Waffle Way spot from the ground up with new floors, booths and walls in the 1,600-square-foot space.

“Grapevine chose us,” Jena Seferi said. “God put us in the right place.”

The details: The breakfast menu includes items such as corned beef hash and eggs, chicken fried steak and eggs, pancakes, French toast, waffles, egg scrambles, eggs Benedict and skillets.

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton recognized for commitment to cardiovascular care

What happened: The American Heart Association recently recognized Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton for their advanced care of patients with heart attacks, strokes and diabetes, according to a press release.

The details: The recognition for heart attack care was based on achievement in the Get With The Guidelines - Coronary Artery Disease program, which focuses on both ST-elevation myocardial infarction and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, per the press release. Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton earned STEMI recognition along with several other area hospitals.

The hospital is located at 3000 I-35, Denton, and is also home to the only Level III designated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the city.
