PREVIEW: College Station City Council to weigh interstate support, Midtown baseball incentives

Transportation planning, development activity and Midtown negotiations are among key items on the agenda for College Station City Council's April 23 meeting.

What you need to know: The council will consider supporting a Future Interstate Highway Formula Program for the I-14 system, including the I-214 loop, which had been a divisive topic at past meetings.

Items worth mentioning: Ahead of the public meeting, College Station City Council will meet in closed session to talk about a couple of ongoing development efforts in Midtown, including a potential economic development incentive agreement tied to the construction of a baseball complex. This comes about two months after entering a letter of intent to develop the nine-field complex.

Also on the agenda:

  • Rezoning: a proposed 222-acre rezoning along Greens Prairie Road to build a residential subdivision

  • Shared housing: ordinance changes to update city regulations on shared housing

Get involved: City Council will meet at 6 p.m. April 23 at City Hall.

Beloved Bryan restaurant reopens with crawfish boil

After almost a year away from regular service, Ronin Farm & Restaurant is reopening. This time, it's right back where its food begins: The farm.

What's happening: Destination Bryan announced the return of dining operations in a Facebook post. The return follows renovations that transformed the farm's barn into a climate-controlled dining room designed for year-round service.

What they offer: The updated space features suspended dining tables and an immersive farm-to-table setting centered around ingredients grown and raised onsite and sourced from Texas producers.

Some context: The reopening marks a new chapter for Ronin after the restaurant closed its downtown Bryan location in May 2025 when owners Amanda and Brian Light said their lease was not renewed after nearly seven years at the Ice House on Main.

Before you go: Celebrations kick off with a crawfish boil on April 21, followed by a full schedule of farm dinners planned throughout the year.

Key Information
Texans have until April 27 to register to vote in May runoff elections

Texans interested in casting a ballot in next month’s primary runoff election have until April 27 to register to vote or update their registration, if applicable.

The background: Texas’ primary runoff election will be held May 26. A runoff is held when no candidate secures over half of the vote in a partisan primary race.

Registering to vote: Prospective voters must submit a paper application, which is available online. Applications must be printed, signed and mailed to the voter registration office in a voter’s county of residence.

On the ballot: Various federal, state and local races will appear on the May 26 runoff ballot.

At the top of the ticket, Republican voters will pick between incumbent Sen. John Cornyn and state Attorney General Ken Paxton to determine the party’s nominee for U.S. Senate. The winner of that race will face state Rep. James Talarico, D-Austin, in November.

Something to note: The runoff election is separate from upcoming local elections, which take place May 2. Visit www.communityimpact.com/voter-guide for more information about those elections.
