Amazon is considering drone deliveries in Pflugerville, according to a Sept. 22 City Council presentation.

The details: Sam Bailey, senior manager of economic policy at Amazon, outlined how the deliveries would work and answered questions about noise and public safety. 

Prime Air has been delivering by drone since 2022, Bailey said. Powered by 100% electric MK30 drones, the delivery service can bring eligible items to customers in 60 minutes or less. The drones can carry items up to five pounds and deliver within a 7.5-mile radius from the fulfillment center. 

Zooming in: The drones have forward- and rear-facing cameras and sensors, but Bailey said they have no surveillance capabilities. 

“It can’t scan faces, look at license plates, or take pictures or images,” Bailey said. “It’s strictly there for safe navigation and obstacle avoidance.”

What's next: The Sept. 22 presentation was a preliminary discussion, and council will revisit the service in the future. 

Hutto-based Cottonwood Creek Brewery is expanding into Round Rock with a new taproom.

The details: Both locations will brew beer, with some brews remaining specific to each location.

In the spring, a food truck is expected to join the Round Rock taproom.

About the business: The business is locally owned by Bobby Delmonico. The original Hutto location features 15 house brews and 12 guest taps.

The Williamson County Art Guild, a 200-member group of artists and art-appreciators, is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

The details: Since starting in 1976, the art guild has become a “bigger presence” in the community, past President Lynn Kessel said. The guild participates in a number of projects, often partnering with local businesses to create artwork around town. They also host art events and exhibitions throughout the county, she said.

The guild opened a gallery on Rock Street in Georgetown in October 2023. The addition of the gallery builds stronger relationships between members and stronger ties into the community, Bradstreet said.

The celebration: To celebrate half a century, the guild is taking it back to the 1970s with a disco party 6-9 p.m. Sept. 26. Named the “Peace, Love & Art Affair,” the festivities include music, refreshments, a silent auction and a quick-draw artist.

One more thing: To commemorate the long line of people involved with the guild, the guild is showing the “Legacy Exhibit.” The 100-piece exhibit, opening Nov. 14, will be shown both at the Georgetown Public Library and the Williamson County Art Guild Gallery.
