$11.4M Celina fire station to break ground in November

Construction will start on Celina’ Fire Station No. 4 in November.

The details: Celina City Council approved a contract for a new fire station that will serve the east side of the city at a meeting Oct. 14. Crossland Construction will build Fire Station No. 4 for about $11.4 million.

QuikTrip coming soon to Prosper, Celina border

Convenience store chain QuikTrip is planning to open its first location in Celina, according to a sign posted at the property.

The details: The business will be located just off Dallas Parkway and Frontier Parkway at the northeast corner of the intersection. QuikTrip currently has three locations in Frisco, with the closest to Prosper and Celina located at 5530 Eldorado Parkway.

Pumpkin carving, family campouts: Check out 7 upcoming events in McKinney this October, November

Events coming up in McKinney include a family-friendly pumpkin carving class, the McKinney Spooktacular Brews and Boos Walk and a 5K run through the historic downtown district. This list is not comprehensive.

1. Pumpkin carving class: Jump Into Art Studios is hosting a family-friendly pumpkin carving workshop. Staff will walk participants through a step-by-step process in carving pumpkins. The studio provides one pumpkin per ticketed participant.

Early voting begins Oct. 20: What to know before heading to the polls

Early voting in the Nov. 4 election begins Oct. 20 and runs through Oct. 31. During early voting, registered voters can cast ballots at any polling place within their county of residence, according to the secretary of state’s office.

What to bring: Voters must bring one of seven forms of identification to the polls:

  • A Texas driver license (issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety)
  • A Texas personal ID card (issued by the DPS)
  • A Texas handgun license (issued by the DPS)
  • A Texas election ID certificate (issued by the DPS)
  • A U.S. military ID card with the voter’s photograph
  • A U.S. citizenship certificate with the voter’s photograph
  • A U.S. passport

Voters may bring written materials, such as notes and sample ballots, to the polls to help them cast their votes, according to the secretary of state’s office.

On the ballot: Texas voters will decide on 17 proposed amendments to the state constitution during the Nov. 4 election.

Community Impact relaunches InCIder program

As Community Impact enters its third decade, it’s returning to its roots of growth and deeper reader connections. The “Patron” program, which began in 2020 by reader demand, is relaunching as the InCIder this month.

“This relaunch represents our renewed commitment to readers who support our local news,” CEO John Garrett said. “Beyond funding great journalism, we also want to reward our InCIders and build deeper connections with them, creating a true sense of community around the work we do.”


The InCIder program currently gives donors access to a special Saturday email edition across each metro: Austin, Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio.


Memberships are currently $10 per month or $110 annually. A membership will include the previously mentioned perks, as well as:
