What North San Antonio voters need to know about voting on Election Day

Residents of North San Antonio can cast their ballots from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 4 on Election Day to decide whether or not to raise the county’s venue tax.

The details: Bexar County residents can vote from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 4 at designated polling centers throughout the county, with local options including Shavano Park City Hall, Hollywood Park City Hall: 2 Mecca Drive, San Antonio and Hill Country Village City Hall. 

Some context: According to the Bexar County Elections Department, 143,499 residents, or 11.66%, cast their ballots during the Oct. 20-31 early voting period. Encino Branch Library had 6,911 votes cast, Parman Branch Library at Stone Oak had 6,049 votes cast and Tobin Branch Library at Oakwell had 6,039 votes cast.

More details: Voters must have a valid form of photo identification when voting in person.

New restaurant Ginger’s Bistro to open on TPC Parkway

Ginger’s Bistro, a new restaurant serving American cuisine, is coming to TPC Parkway this winter.

The details: Owned by John and Sharrah Lopez, the new restaurant will feature Southern comfort foods, a full bar, an appetizer menu featuring wings and other favorites, cocktails and Cajun and Creole dishes. Ginger’s Bistro will also offer a Hawaiian-inspired dish known as Moco Loco, which will feature braised short rib, a brown gravy and a fried egg on a bed of rice. The restaurant will also offer a special brunch menu on weekends, along with a mimosa menu.

Dishes include buttermilk fried chicken, bone-in ribeye steak, sirloin steak, burgers, sandwiches, salads, chicken and sausage gumbo, crawfish etouffee and braised beef tacos.

Locally-owned dance studio opens new location on San Antonio's northeast side

A new dance studio offering both casual lessons and a competitive dance team is now open on the city’s northeast side.

Learn more: The studio—called Élevé Dance Lab—opened for the start of the fall competitive dance season on Sept. 2, Owner and Director Brandon Allen told Community Impact.

It’s situated at 4525 N. Stahl Park in San Antonio, near Friesenhahn Park.

Allen said the dance company began with lessons and practice held at various temporary locations throughout the summer, but the finished studio wasn’t ready until early September.

Check it out: Élevé Dance Lab has two programs—the Recreational Division for more casual dancers and the Élevé Elite Competitive Team that requires placement and commitment, Allen said.

Students served range from 18 months old to 18 years old.

The recreational team can participate in a variety of eclectic styles like jazz, funk and basic skill training, while the competitive team focuses on the advanced techniques of ballet, jazz, contemporary and Hip-Hop routines for recitals.

What Texans should know before heading to the polls Nov. 4

Election Day is Nov. 4. Polling places across Texas will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., according to the secretary of state’s office.

The overview: Voters in the following counties can vote at any polling place within their county of residence through the countywide voting program: Bastrop, Bexar, Brazoria, Collin, Comal, Dallas, Fort Bend, Galveston, Guadalupe, Harris, Hays, Tarrant, Travis and Williamson. Registered voters in other counties are required to visit a polling place specific to their voting precinct.

On the ballot: Texas voters will decide on 17 proposed amendments to the state constitution during the Nov. 4 election. Each proposition was approved by at least two-thirds of state lawmakers this spring before being placed on the ballot.

Voters in various communities across the state may also see local propositions and races on their ballots, including a 20% tax rate increase in Austin, a congressional race in Harris County and a state Senate race in Tarrant County.
