Denton ISD works to prepare students for regional workforce demands

With the greater Denton region projected to add more than 300,000 new jobs over the next 10 years, Denton ISD is using Career and Technical Education programs to meet employment needs.

At an Aug. 11 DISD board meeting, CTE Program Director Will Milne reviewed the district’s efforts to align CTE curriculum and outlined the department’s vision for the 2026-27 school year.

The details: Milne’s CTE report stated software development, nursing, and logistics represent some of the fastest-growing occupations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with employers seeking workers with experience in digital and technical skills across all industries.

To prepare students for this expansion, Milne said DISD's CTE programs focus heavily on key high-growth, high-wage sectors.

“The labor market is something we always like to look for with CTE,” Milne said. “It’s important because we’re always trying to keep an eye on what our labor market is doing now and also what it’s doing 10 years down the line so that we’re preparing our students adequately by the time they graduate.”

Texas Woman’s University to host NorTex College Fair in September

Texas Woman’s University will host the 2026 NorTex College Fair. The free event will include a variety of sessions with dozens of higher education institutions from across the country.

The details: Major universities and colleges that will be on-site include the University of Alabama, University of Arkansas, Kansas State University, Arizona State University, Oklahoma State University, University of Florida, University of Massachusetts Amherst and University of Maryland.

“Choosing what comes after high school is a big decision, and not every student or family has the time or resources to visit multiple campuses,” said Brittnee Hernandez, manager of strategic initiatives and operations at Texas Woman’s University. “This college fair brings those opportunities together in one place, giving students the chance to explore colleges, universities and trade schools, ask meaningful questions, and connect with people who can help guide their next steps.”

Representatives with dozens of colleges and universities will be on hand to answer questions about financial aid opportunities, admissions, school culture and programs.
