Over the past month, several development projects in the Lake Travis - Westlake area have been underway. From new developments to ongoing projects, check three recent development stories from the area.

1. Travis County commissioners oppose permit for White Rocks development: The Travis County Commissioners Court approved a resolution opposing a Texas Land Permit Application submitted by White Rocks Entertainment LLC to the Texas Commission on Environment Quality on July 14.

2. Funding secured for new 254-acre mixed use development in Marble Falls: Construction on a new 254-acre mixed use development called "The Highlands" near Marble Falls is expected to begin in September after securing a $28.2 million construction grant, according to a news release from Rockspring, a Texas-based real estate firm spearheading the development.

3. Bee Cave issues cease and desist to developers near Sweetwater community: The city of Bee Cave issued cease and desist letters on July 24 to two developers of three properties along Hwy. 71 near the Sweetwater community after construction processes began without approval from the city.

Locals Automotive Repair is opening in Lakeway in early September.

The overview: The repair shop provides state inspections, brake services, diagnostics tests, transmission work, and routine maintenance, among other services.

Locals Automotive Repair currently has shops in Georgetown and Pflugerville.

The details: Beyond Lakeway, the repair shop is also in the process of opening locations in Aubry and McKinney.

St. David’s HealthCare announced it acquired 14 Texas MedClinic Urgent Care centers in August.

Latest update: The urgent care centers will be rebranded as St. David’s CareNow Urgent Care clinics, per an Aug. 3 news release.

This brings the number of urgent care facilities under the St. David’s system to 39 in Central Texas alone, according to the company.

In their own words: “Access to convenient, high-quality urgent care is essential for the health and well-being of our growing community,” David Huffstutler, president and CEO of St. David’s HealthCare, said in the release. “Adding these urgent care facilities significantly expands the St. David’s CareNow footprint into new Central Texas communities, including Burnet, Liberty Hill, Jarrell, Lockhart and Dripping Springs, connecting more patients to the trusted care and resources of St. David’s HealthCare.”

Ongoing projects

Austin seeks public feedback on Cesar Chavez Street renaming: The city is seeking public feedback on the potential renaming of Cesar Chavez Street following some City Council members' request for the change earlier this year. The city is asking residents whether the street should be renamed, and if so, what designation to use as a replacement. Council will take that input before making any final decisions. Three public meetings about the renaming process will be held from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. on Aug. 11 at the Central Library and  Aug. 15 at Sanchez Elementary School, and Aug. 18 via a virtual webinar.
