Proposed Austin Ranch townhomes off Windhaven Parkway move forward

Plans for a new townhome development off Windhaven Parkway are set to go before Plano City Council in November after receiving approval from Plano’s Planning and Zoning Commission.

What happened: Commissioners voted 5-1 to recommend approval of the items at their Oct. 20 meeting, with Commissioner Sean Lingenfelter voting against both items due to remaining concerns about traffic, screening and fire access limitations.

The details: The developer, Trammel Crow Company, is asking for a zoning change for 3.3 acres from agricultural to single-family residential, with a concept plan detailing two-story townhomes on 2.3 acres of the property. The property, located at the southwest corner of Windhaven Parkway and Midway Road, will include 15 single-family attached townhome units with detached garages, according to city documents.

Zooming in: Senior Planner Molly Coryell said the city has received 91 responses to the zoning request, with 88 in opposition to the request. All 12 responses received within 200 feet of the property site opposed the request, according to city documents.

Frisco ISD offers career classes for hands-on learning

Working directly with first responders and nursing home residents are just a few examples of the experiences Frisco ISD students can have while taking Career and Technical Education courses.

The overview: FISD students can take courses in a variety of career pathways during their time in school, including architecture, engineering, hospitality, finance, health sciences and audio and video production, among others. Beyond textbook knowledge, career and technical education courses help students learn essential skills such as teamwork, communication and problem solving, said Dianna Manuel, principal of FISD’s CTE campus.

Quote of note: “Career and technical education courses give students the chance to explore their interests while engaging in hands-on learning that connects classroom content to real-world industry skills,” Manuel said.
