Construction kicks off on new Pat’s Donuts store in New Caney

On May 5, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new Pat’s Donuts location coming soon to New Caney.

Read all about it: The project is being built by construction company Bazcon. Pat's Donuts sells doughnuts, pastries and breakfast foods—such as tacos, kolaches and croissant sandwiches. Iced and hot coffee, cappuccinos and other drinks are also available.

New single-family home community Madera opens in New Caney

A new single-family home community—with houses featuring up to five bedrooms and 3 1/2 bathrooms—is now open for tours in New Caney.

The gist: Madera, which includes one- and two-story floor plans, is located at the corner of Willaby Road and Madera Drive in New Caney. Homes are available for around $170,000 and higher.

The neighborhood also features:

  • A splash pad
  • Walking trails

All Ears! held its Boots & Bowties Ball to fundraise for deaf children's programs
According to a news release, on April 10, The All Ears! Center held its Toast & Taste: Boots & Bowties Ball to help fundraise for deaf or hard-of-hearing children. According to the news release, the ball raised “significant funds” to help support the clinic's new Zero Delay program. The new Zero Delay program will help children ages 0-3 get access to speech and hearing services.

The Margaritaville Beach Cottage Resort in Galveston is continuing development, with the construction of a model cottage unit designed to give prospective buyers an early on-site experience by the summer, according to an April 22 news release from RREAF Holdings.

Q&A: Catch up with the Republican candidates for Texas attorney general ahead of the May 26 runoff

For the first time in over a decade, there is no incumbent in the Texas attorney general's race as Republican Ken Paxton runs for U.S. Senate. Candidates on both sides of the aisle will compete in runoff elections May 26 after no candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the March 3 primaries.

State Sen. Mayes Middleton of Galveston and U.S. Rep. Chip Roy of Austin are each seeking the Republican nomination for the seat.

The overview: Middleton and Roy were the two highest-performing candidates in a four-person primary race. The winner of the May 26 overtime round will face the Democratic nominee and potential third-party candidates in November.

The context: The attorney general serves as Texas' top lawyer, defending the state in court, filing consumer protection lawsuits and issuing opinions interpreting state law. The agency also enforces Texas' child support laws, investigates human trafficking cases and manages access to public records.

At the polls: Texans can vote early May 18-22 and runoff election day is May 26.
