Eanes ISD renovates The Learning Center, administration building
Eanes ISD's alternative high school program and administrative departments are finding new homes, thanks to renovation projects funded by two of the district's bonds.
What's new?: The Learning Center is EISD's by-choice alternative schooling program for 11th and 12th grade Westlake High School students.
The center was previously located in a building on the WHS campus, but renovated and moved into the now-former EISD administration building at the start of the 2025-26 school year.
The $2.2 million renovation was funded by the 2023 bond and includes classrooms, a collaborative "maker space," a community room, and offices.
What to expect: EISD's administration building, which also housed the board of trustees meeting room, is moving down the street.
The building is currently awaiting inspections but is slated to be complete by mid-September.
The $9.6 million project includes funds from the 2019 and 2023 bonds to renovate the building.
Along with a new board meeting room, the building will house the business services, communications, human resources, legal, rentals, superintendent office and teaching and learning departments.
Austin launches $3M civic comprehensive plan update
The 30-year civic blueprint Imagine Austin will be undergoing a $3 million update after City Council formally kicked off the comprehensive planning and public engagement process in August.
Austin's city charter calls for ongoing planning efforts, and city leaders first adopted Imagine Austin as a government and community roadmap in 2012. The city's grown and changed since then but the plan hasn't gone through a full revision, leading to the update that's now moving ahead.
Officials funded the update in Austin's budget two years ago. City outreach like public events, surveys and other efforts will take place over the coming months as the new Imagine Austin takes shape. An updated draft plan for the city's next 20 years will be up for resident review in late 2026 or early 2027, to be followed by formal adoption later that year.
Austin Water moves to spend $42M on new east side campus
Austin Water is moving to spend nearly $42 million on a 143-acre campus on the east side to support its operations, including a nearby wastewater plant expansion.
City officials will vote on the acquisition at 6500 Tracor Lane, covering millions of square feet on both sides of US 183 on the east side. AW doesn't have any firm plans for the property yet; if the purchase is approved, the utility will move ahead on a campus planning process.
The land deal stems from a 2019 facilities evaluation completed for AW by a consultant, which recommended consolidating space and moving away from many of the utility's aging or leased properties.
