Denton Arts & Jazz Festival announces new dates, location for 2026

The Denton Arts & Jazz Festival will now be in September and move to the North Texas Fairgrounds for the 2026 festivities, according to a social media from the organization

The details: The event, which will be celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, will have more space for art, dancing and vendors, according to the post. The Fairgrounds has 33 acres of space and can hold five outdoor stages, according to the organization’s website.

“The 35th anniversary is an important moment in the festival’s history,” Kevin Lechler, the festival’s executive director, said in a news release Feb. 10. “Moving to the North Texas Fairgrounds allows us to build on the festival’s legacy while creating an even more welcoming and dynamic experience for our audiences and partners.”

The Denton Arts & Jazz Festival had been set up in Quakerstown Park in recent years, according to the website. The new dates also shift the festival back one month from October.

  • Festival dates: Sept. 11-13

Southeast Denton Area Plan lays out plans to update sidewalks in high-traffic areas

Denton officials are working to improve southeast Denton with the Southeast Denton Area Plan, a guide for future improvements and capital projects that includes updated sidewalk infrastructure.

City staff conducted a study and compiled their findings in a July 2024 report, which showed the need for improved mobility in the area.

Zooming in: Southeast Denton’s perimeter consists of a solid barrier of industrial buildings and busy streets that, combined with a lack of sidewalks and bike facilities, make it difficult or impossible for residents to safely walk or bike beyond the edges of the community, according to the report. There is also a lack of sidewalk infrastructure heading to southeast Denton city parks.

Kayla Herrod, deputy director of marketing and communications with the city of Denton, said city staff created a map of areas where they want to see sidewalk infrastructure improvement, but the exact mileage for improvement has not been determined yet.

Looking ahead: Exact funding has not been assigned to this project yet, city staff said.

Terminal E flyover bridge replacement at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to finish in 2027

The Dallas Fort Worth International Airport board approved an increase for a contract to add the replacement of the flyover bridge into Terminal E.

During the Feb. 5 meeting, Phase 2 of the International Parkway Bridges was approved for an additional $136.1 million for the flyover replacement. It is part of the ongoing $12 billion DFW Forward capital plan, which is expanding and modernizing the airport that celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024.

What's happening: Replacement of the existing left-hand exit flyover bridges into terminals A and B occurred in 2025, and work is currently ongoing for Terminal C flyover bridge replacement. Those three terminals along with Terminal E are the four original buildings and roadways that opened in 1974.

The Terminal E flyover bridge is at the end of life, and the location conflicts with the planned Terminal F ticketing and parking garage.

What else? A contract with Passur Aerospace of Orlando, Florida, was increased by $221,377 to $2.51 million and extended to March 4, 2027.
