Special Angels nonprofit spreads awareness of special needs community in The Woodlands

Taleen Movses has been working at Special Angels of The Woodlands since 2023. She says working with clients has left a major, positive impact on her life by being a part of clients' growth. Special Angels of The Woodlands is a faith-driven nonprofit organization serving adults 18 and up with intellectual and developmental disabilities through a day activity center.

Did you know: Intellectual and developmental disabilities, or IDD, can affect an individual’s physical, intellectual, and/or emotional development, according to The National Institute of Health.

How it's going: The main staff include Executive Director Claudia Morales and Movses, who is the program manager and quality assurance specialist. Movses has worked for the organization since 2023. When the facility first opened, staff kept a roster of 20 clients, but it’s now up to 25 clients with the goal of 75.

What parents should know: Movses said if a client is new to an environment like Special Angels, some parents may be afraid to let their child go and explore, but it helps to encourage independence.

Local Eats
Burgers, beer, bourbon: Bohemian Bull now open in Spring

The ice-cold drink tavern celebrated its grand opening on June 22 and is open to the public for lunch, dinner and happy hour. This Bohemian Bull location joins seven others across the country, and is the second location to open its doors in Texas.

Craving burgers?: Rooted in American cuisine, its menu offers customers a variety of burgers ground in-house from black Angus beef, fresh salads, sandwiches and other savory appetizers.

Another signature facet of Bohemian Bull is its offerings from local and regional breweries that make up its rotating craft beer selection.

The Woodlands Township to consider new covenant fee waiver policy and changes to phone system infrastructure

The Woodlands Township board of directors will discuss a covenant administration fee waiver policy and several other topics during its scheduled June 25 meeting.

What you need to know: Community Impact previously reported updates to the Covenant Administration Department, or CAD, fees that will be implemented effective July 1. Most of the fee changes will impact commercial improvements as well as two minor adjustments to residential fees. During the next board meeting, the township will discuss a waiver policy proposal that can be used to help protect owners of residential and commercial property who experience damage or destruction to permitted improvements during natural disasters, according to the agenda.

Also on the agenda: Among items on the consent agenda, which are typically approved in one motion without discussion, the township will consider an item to approve a new phone system infrastructure agreement that will move the township’s voice calling infrastructure to a cloud-provided option.
