Brazos County explores sobriety monitoring program for repeat DWI offenders

Brazos County is exploring a program that would require repeat driving while intoxicated, or DWI, offenders to undergo twice-daily alcohol testing as officials look for ways to reduce impaired driving and improve public safety.

About the program: The 24/7 Sobriety Program was presented to Brazos County commissioners July 28 as an evidence-based model that has operated for more than two decades in other states.

Who it’s for: The program is designed primarily for people arrested for multiple DWI offenses or with increased circumstances, including:

  • BAC above 0.15
  • Driving with a child
  • Driving in an active school zone

Participants report twice daily for breath alcohol testing and are subject to random drug tests. Frequent testing combined with immediate sanctions for violations has been shown to reduce repeat impaired driving and other alcohol-related offenses, according to the presentation.

Participants who fail or miss a test could face immediate penalties, including a 12-hour jail hold for a first violation.

What’s next: The institute is working through a stakeholder advisory group to determine how the program would operate locally.

The details: Only one of the Bryan-College Station area's six ZIP codes saw a decrease in the number of homes sold in June compared to the same month last year. Overall, more homes were sold.


Median home prices fluctuated by ZIP code in the Bryan-College Station area. Three saw an increase.

The median number of days a home sat on the market in the Bryan-College Station area increased across all but two ZIP codes in June compared to the same month in 2025.

Also of note: Most homes sold in the market were between $200,000 and $399,999.

Katy-based Volleyball School to open satellite Bryan-College Station location

A new youth volleyball training school with several skill-level programs and private lessons is coming to Bryan-College Station.

The overview: The Volleyball School is a Katy-based volleyball training academy that offers beginner, intermediate and advanced courses for children aged 7-18. The school also offers private lessons and a program dedicated specifically to boys' volleyball.

As previously reported by Community Impact, this is the school’s second expansion this year, with a Cypress location opening up to the public in May. 

The takeaway: Scheduled to open at the beginning of August with classes at the Sadberry Intermediate School, the first 25 to sign up will be allowed to register for free. The school will only be running Saturday classes throughout the month to “properly introduce the programs and teachings to the community.”
