The MakerBarn’s 10th Anniversary
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the nonprofit The MakerBarn is hosting an event that will feature special activities, a maker’s market and refreshments.

Author Fest 2026
Lone Star College-Tomball Community Library’s Author Fest 2026 will feature a variety of authors, giving attendees the opportunity to meet them and buy signed books.

Attendees are invited to come watch a series of experimental one-act performances directed by Lone Star College-Tomball students.

Bruster’s Real Ice Cream now open in Tomball

A new Bruster's Real Ice Cream shop near the Grand Parkway opened May 15, according to a May 16 news release from the business. The location offers walk-up and drive-thru service, with more than 24 flavors made fresh daily.

What we know: On the menu, customers can find ice cream, sundaes, milkshakes, blasts, banana splits, waffle cones, ice cream cakes, pies and take-home pints and quarts. The shop also serves non-dairy options and sherbets, according to the release
Per the release, the Tomball store marks the fourth Houston-area Bruster’s location owned by the Martinez family, joining locations in Spring and Conroe.

“We are thrilled to open our fourth Bruster’s location and bring our fresh-made ice cream to the Tomball community,” owner and operator Greg Martinez said in the release. “Our family has proudly served the Houston area for more than two decades, and we look forward to creating memorable experiences for families and friends for years to come.”

Montgomery County library system kicking off summer reading program

The Montgomery County Memorial Library System’s upcoming summer reading program runs from June 1-July 25. The theme is “Unearth a Story," and the library system will have free events and reading challenges as part of the program, according to a May 26 news release.

About the program: According to its website, the reading program is composed of two parts—self-paced reading and community events. The events are free and open to the public and will be available at all seven MCMLS locations for the eight-week program. 

Dates to know: All seven MCMLS locations will be hosting kickoff parties to celebrate the beginning of the summer reading program. The dates and locations can be found below:

  • Mitchell Library: June 1, 10 a.m.-noon
  • Kevin Brady Library: June 1, 2-4:30 p.m.
  • Malcolm Purvis Library: June 3, 10 a.m.-noon
  • Tullis Library: June 3, 10 a.m.-noon
  • Central Library: June 3, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Meador Library: June 4, 10 a.m.-noon
  • Stewart Library: June 5, noon-2 p.m.

Portland-based burger chain Killer Burger makes debut in Houston

Killer Burger opened May 7 at 1909 Taylor St., Ste. A, Houston. The restaurant offers burger combinations in a variety of sizes and combos. Guests can also customize their options to be gluten-free, veggie or keto-friendly, with a lettuce wrap option or meatless patty. Sides include fries and onion rings.
