Frisco outlines park, trail plans for $1B The Link development

The city of Frisco laid out park and trail plans for The Link, a $1 billion mixed-use district near PGA Frisco.

The gist: Covering approximately 240 acres at the southeast corner of Legacy Drive and PGA Parkway, The Link is a mixed-use development plan designed for housing, offices, retail, entertainment and outdoor amenities together near the PGA of America headquarters.

At its Oct. 20 meeting, the Frisco City Council approved an agreement to guide developers’ park obligations and fees across the project’s construction.

Frisco will offset some of the developers’ costs for building parks and trails through park fee credits or refunds, which reduce or return fees owed to the city in exchange for completing required parkland dedications and improvements.

James Talarico projected to become Texas' next US senator

Polls across Texas closed at 7 p.m. in the Nov. 3 election, bringing a competitive race between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico to a close.

What's happening: Initial results from early voting and mail-in ballots showed Talarico with an early lead over Paxton, although outcomes could change as more counties publish early voting totals and begin reporting results from Election Day.

The winner of the Nov. 3 election will replace Sen. John Cornyn, who lost his reelection bid to Paxton earlier this year. Each state has two U.S. senators, and the new senator will work alongside Republican Ted Cruz.

What they're saying: In August, Talarico told Community Impact his top priority was to "tackle corruption to bring down costs for working people," while Paxton said he would prioritize "lowering costs, restoring the American Dream and keeping Texas a safe place." Libertarian candidate Ted Brown said he was in favor of policies based on "personal freedom, economic freedom, digital privacy [and] anti-foreign military intervention."

Abbott concedes; Hinojosa projected to become next governor of Texas

Incumbent Republican Gov. Greg Abbott conceded to Democratic challenger Gina Hinojosa shortly after 10 p.m. on Nov. 3.

The latest: As of press time, Hinojosa had earned 52% of the vote while Abbott garnered 46%. Libertarian challenger Pat Dixton had earned just over 1% of the total votes counted with over 30% of precincts reporting statewide.

What they're saying: "I love our state," Abbott said to his crowd of supporters in Austin, sharing that he had just finished calling Hinojosa to congratulate her. "It's been an honor to serve it. I know we are leaving Texas in far better shape that it's ever been."

"No one would’ve imagined that one day, a little girl from the Rio Grande Valley would stand before you here as the next governor of the greatest state: Texas," Hinojosa told supporters at her own party in Austin. "But God had a plan, and the people of Texas had a plan, too."
