Willie's Grill & Icehouse to open in Leander

A new Willie’s Grill & Icehouse is coming soon to Leander, said Kelsie Penn, managing partner of the new location. The restaurant, serving Texas-inspired dishes, will open to customers in late March, she said.

What’s on the menu: Willie’s Grill & Icehouse brings together the best of Texas cuisine, according to its website, including southern cajun dishes, Tex-Mex and burgers made in-house. The menu includes comfort food like chicken fried steak, onion rings and fried pickles. Willie’s also serves up loaded fries, salads, seafood boils and sandwiches.

Looking for a libation? To beat the Texas heat, patrons can also grab one of the many frozen beverages on the menu, including a beerita or the frozen Jack and Coke. Following the icehouse tradition, Willie’s also has an array of cold beers.

Round Rock ISD mulls 2027-28 academic calendar with October break

When Round Rock ISD posed its annual calendar survey to community members, it proposed the option of a weeklong break in October or an earlier start to the 2027-28 school year.

District administrators said in a March 26 meeting that survey responses led them to create an entirely different calendar option.

What you need to know: District administrators provided an update to the board, showing the results of this survey and how they informed the calendar option that will be presented to the board for approval in April.

The details: RRISD Chief of Access and Opportunity Karen Gray said the district explored the possibility of a fall break after receiving suggestions from community members.

Gray shared that community members expressed concerns about child care challenges for both calendar options—A and B—that had either a fall break or an early start.

Austin to shutter South Terminal as airport expansion continues; future Concourse M designs revealed

The South Terminal at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is officially shutting down March 31 after less than a decade in operation.

The details: The auxiliary terminal is being demolished to make way for new midfield taxiways as part of the multiyear "Journey with AUS" campus expansion. That includes the addition of the 26-gate Concourse B with a new connecting tunnel to the existing Barbara Jordan Terminal, and the development of a temporary six-gate southern terminal called Concourse M.

The South Terminal was initially expected to have a longer presence at ABIA, and its early closure led to costly legal proceedings between the city and former facility operator LoneStar Airport Holdings.

What else: Ahead of the South Terminal closure, Austin Aviation unveiled its initial designs for the nearly 38,000-square-foot Concourse M. Its gates on the west side of ABIA's airfield are meant for relief and diversions during Journey with AUS construction as the Barbara Jordan Terminal is expanded and improved, and while Concourse B remains in development.

WilCo officials purchase 253 acres in Georgetown for future Justice Complex

Williamson County commissioners unanimously approved a $75.82 million purchase of 253 acres of land in Georgetown on March 24, intended for the future Justice Complex, according to a news release.

Learn more: Because Georgetown is the county seat, the Justice Complex must be located within the city’s limits or in its extraterritorial jurisdiction.

The land purchase includes four pieces of property in southwest Georgetown, including a 134-acre portion at 1200 CR 110, and 119 acres south of Sam Houston Avenue and east of Maple Street, the release states.

There are also several existing county buildings on SE Inner Loop, providing for more efficient government operations, Precinct 3 Commissioner Valerie Covey said at the March 24 meeting.

“[That’s] why there's so many acres there, so it can become a campus,” Covey said.

What’s next: The county will hold a public information session about the Justice Complex project April 21 from 5-7 p.m. at 3189 SE Inner Loop in Georgetown.
