City of Round Rock moves forward with contract updates for 2 west side road projects

City officials approved updates to two projects on Round Rock's west side in July.

What you need to know: Updates to contracts for road projects underway on Chisholm Trail South and Wyoming Springs Drive include additional funding for further utility relocations as well as driver safety enhancement, Public Works Director Michael Thane said. Council approved both changes July 9.

The details: Council approved a supplemental contract with contractor Friese & Nichols for $221,103, funded by Type B sales tax revenue, which is also known as the Round Rock Transportation and Economic Development Corp., to fund additional infrastructure improvements, including a pedestrian crossing near the Round Rock landmark near Chisholm Trail Road. It also approved a $94,192 change order for its contract with Capital Excavation Co., also funded by Type B sales tax revenue, to add driver safety improvements to the Wyoming Springs Drive extension as well as extend the project timeline by 135 days.

Round Rock officials OK retail parking changes for The District, developer talks tenancy plans

The District's Greenlawn Boulevard-facing frontage will look a bit different from the models in existence when the project broke ground in March.

In a nutshell: The Round Rock City Council approved an update to plans for the mixed-use development located at the southwest corner of SH 45 and I-35 on July 9. The update included the elimination of a maximum setback for buildings along Greenlawn Boulevard to make way for surface parking to serve retail. The development is currently planned to include several parking garages for this portion of the development, Planning and Development Services Director Brad Dushkin said in a July 7 packet briefing

Put in perspective: Dushkin said the development is planned to be inward-facing along a central road. Many of the buildings planned for the inner portion of the development are still planned to have parking garages to support residential properties, office buildings and a future hotel. The retail portion of the project along Greenlawn Boulevard will also face inward, with surface parking lots located behind storefronts, he said.
