Broadway Street expansion in Pearland makes headway with $616K contract

The effort to widen a section of Broadway Street, Pearland’s most trafficked corridor, near Shadow Creek Ranch, has made significant progress after the city awarded a design and construction contract that is slated for completion by August 2028. 

What residents should know: Pearland City Council voted unanimously at its March 23 meeting to award a $616,000 contract to engineering firm Consor North America for design, bidding and construction services tied to the widening of Broadway Street between Kirby Drive and Halfmoon Bay Drive. 

What’s next: The Pearland Economic Development Corp. will fund the project and later be reimbursed from Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone 2 funds, Epperson said.

One more thing: The design, bidding and contract award are slated for completion by July 2027, and construction is expected to be completed by August 2028, according to city documents.

Kung Fu Tea has relocated within Pearland Town Center, moving from Suite 1370 to Suite 1380 on March 21, a representative of the business confirmed.

On the menu: The shop serves a wide selection of beverages, including milk teas, lemonades, matcha drinks, espresso options, as well as slushes and fruit punches.

Houston Humane Society opens 10,000-square-foot veterinary clinic, expand capacity by 30%

The Houston Humane Society celebrated the opening of its first stand alone clinic on March 24, according to a March 26 news release from the organization.

What they offer: The 10,000 square foot veterinary clinic expands the HHS' ability to serve 30% more animals by expanding access to competitively priced veterinary care.

The clinic features five exam rooms, a full-service surgical suite with new technology and equipment, treatment and dental rooms, separate cat and dog waiting areas and a designated outdoor area for pets to relieve themselves.

The details: The new clinic is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and offers comprehensive, life-saving medical treatments and services including pet vaccinations, spay and neuter services, ultrasounds, laser therapy, dental care, wellness exams and microchipping.

Houston rental data shows more single-family homes available on the market

Houston’s single-family rental homes saw an 6.8% increase in leased properties compared to last February, according to the Houston Association of Realtors’ February Rental Market Update released March 18.

By the numbers: Alongside the higher number of leased single-family homes, the average lease price declined by 0.6% compared to last year. The number of days on market for homes, however, increased, jumping to 50 days compared to 44 days last year, per the report.

What else: The townhome and condominium market saw some movement this past month as well. There were 569 properties listed, representing a 4.2% increase from the 546 units last February. The lease price also dropped by 3.6%, and the days on market increased to 56 days, up from 52 the previous February, per the report.

The Caffeine Collective offers space for women-owned businesses in Magnolia

Jinxie Peruzzi, mother of eight children and business owner of The Caffeine Collective and Buddy and Sis Co., said she founded her own coffee shop to offer a community space for other mothers to feel welcome and at ease in a family-friendly environment.

Along with several coffee classics offered, Peruzzi said her favorite part of the cafe is creating seasonal coffee options, such as the raspberry rose latte and matcha-inspired drinks.

The cafe is also known for its buckets of coffee—34 ounces—and its coffee flights, four mini surprise coffee options for customers who want to try a variety of flavors.
