The Players Theatre Company has announced it will celebrate its 60th anniversary in the 2026-27 season. The theme for the season will be “Legacy and Revelations,” honoring the decades of work the company has provided to the greater Conroe area.

How did we get here? Operating out of the Owens Theatre in downtown Conroe, the Players Theatre Company has expanded its function and community work since its original founding in 1966. Then known as the Little Theatre of Conroe, its productions were mostly at the Hunt Plumbing Supply Building before expanding to the Crighton Theatre. 

Plays and musicals were performed there from 1979-2008, until the theater eventually moved to its current location, the Owens Theatre in downtown Conroe. 

Cindy Siple, managing director for the Players Theatre Company, said the theater has grown over the last decade largely due to the support of the greater Conroe community.

Pokémon Card Swap
Pokémon enthusiasts are invited to the R.F. Meador Branch Library to meet other players and trade cards. The swapping event is open to children ages 4-9 and tweens ages 10-12. While trading is encouraged, it is not required. All attendees must be registered for this event in advance.

Walmart on July 23 announced a multiyear workforce development grant in Houston aimed at helping workers in several communities prepare for higher-quality career opportunities over the next five years, according to a news release.

Walmart and Walmart Foundation announced an initial $250,000 grant to the Greater Houston Partnership to expand the workforce priorities of the Houston Economic Mobility Coalition, while United Way of Houston, Houston City College and San Jacinto College will also be partners in the effort, according to the release.

Another detail: The announcement was made at the Walmart location at 3040 College Park Drive, Conroe, which is also the location of the Walmart Academy in the area, officials said. The grant coincides with the 10th anniversary of Walmart Academy, a private training program that has seen over 4 million training completions since 2016, according to the news release.
