The Cy-Fair ISD board of trustees voted 6-1 on Aug. 10 to place a four-proposition $1.63 billion bond referendum on the November ballot. Trustee Christine Kalmbach voted against the measure. The referendum is intended for updates to existing campuses and facilities, and none of the propositions include new builds for the district.
Proposed updates under the bond include:
- Buses and HVAC systems
- Police radios and vehicles
- Student, teacher and classroom technology
The board of trustees also approved a 12-cent voter-approval tax rate election, or VATRE, for the November ballot. This 12-cent maintenance and operations tax rate increase will appear alongside the bond referendum as Proposition A. While bond funds cannot be used for operating expenditures, using the bond for repairs would prevent the district from needing to use its operating budget for the updates. The district's FY 2026-27 operating budget has a projected shortfall of $80.9 million.
