Denton City Council continues discussion of 2,500-acre Craver Ranch development

The overview: The Craver Ranch development could bring over 9,000 new homes and more than 1 million square feet of commercial space to the city of Denton. Members of Denton City Council continued discussion of the 2,500-acre master-planned development at an Oct. 21 work session.

The specifics: The project, developed by Old Prosper Partners, is located on the 2,870-acre area south of Lake Ray Roberts that was annexed into the city in 2008 and 2009, according to city documents.

The development will include:

  • 7,019 single-family homes
  • 584 townhomes
  • 1, 515 multifamily units
  • 1.2 million square feet of commercial space
  • A 358-acre central park
  • 13.5 miles of trails
  • Two elementary schools
  • One middle school

The project would be built over 17 years, with construction expected from 2028 through 2045, city documents state.

Sushi Kai to offer Japanese fare in Denton

Japanese restaurant Sushi Kai plans to open on W. University Drive in Denton in late November, a company representative said.

What they offer: The restaurant will specialize in Japanese cuisine, and the menu will feature sushi, hibachi and ramen, the representative said.

Pigtails and Crewcuts offers children's haircuts in Northlake

Pigtails and Crewcuts now offers children’s haircuts in Northlake Commons, according to a news release from the business.

The details: The salon has themed vehicle chairs, books, movies, video games and a variety of toys for children to play with while in the building. There is also a retail section with children’s hair products, accessories, gifts and ear piercing services, according to the release.  Pigtails and Crewcuts includes a sensory room for kids with sensory sensitivities, per the release.

Quote of note: “We love that Pigtails and Crewcuts offers services designed to meet the needs of all kids, including those with sensory sensitivities,” Co-owner Ziggy Watrous said in the release. “It’s so rewarding to give families a place where children can feel comfortable, safe and celebrated.”

UNT Frisco integrates project learning with industry partners

Students at the University of North Texas Frisco campus have the opportunity to work with industry partners while in an undergraduate program.

About the program: Housed at the UNT at Frisco campus, the Project Design and Analysis Degree is a three-year program in which students are tasked with doing a semester-long project each academic term, said Kevin Sanders, director of co-curricular student services for project based learning. Students work directly with local industry partners by completing various projects for the organizations throughout the program. 

Quote of note: “[Frisco is a] hub for student and industry intersection,” Sanders said.
