Grapevine council OKs additional $150,000 toward Grapevine Fairway Events Center work

Additional funding was approved for cost overages at the Grapevine Fairway Events Center.

During the Nov. 4 Grapevine City Council meeting, a consent agenda item reflected an amount not to exceed $150,000 to allow for completion of the venue at 3800 Fairway Drive.

What’s happening: Work on the renovation of indoor and outdoor meeting venues at Grapevine Golf Course began in October 2024, according to previous reporting.

The $4.72 million project, led by Fransen Pittman as the construction manager at-risk, was slated for completion this summer.

Increased construction material and labor costs, along with supply chain issues, have resulted in overages beyond the approved amount, according to city documents.

The details: The former pro shop building is being turned into an open-air pavilion, while the golf course concourse area is being renovated.

The Normal Brand opens 1st Texas location in Southlake

The Normal Brand, a clothing store for men and women, has opened in Southlake Town Square.

The store sells sweaters, dresses, t-shirts, hoodies, pants, shorts, skirts, henleys, tank tops, jeans and button-up shirts that are dedicated to comfort, durability and versatility, according to the website.

The details: The clothes are made from scratch with a soft fabric called Puremso. Founder Jimmy Sansone wrote about the fabric on the company website, saying it’s a mix of ribbed cotton, polyester and stretch fabric, which is then washed down to feel soft and broken in.

Record number of Texans expected to travel during Thanksgiving week

Thanksgiving week is expected to be one of the busiest U.S. travel periods in history, according to projections from AAA. A record 5.8 million Texans are projected to travel at least 50 miles from home Nov. 25-Dec. 1.

Zooming in: About 5.3 million Texans are expected to drive to their Thanksgiving destinations, according to a Nov. 17 news release, while about 328,000 people will fly and 140,000 will use other forms of transportation.

The impact: Texans should give themselves extra time to reach their destinations during Thanksgiving week, with the most congestion expected Nov. 25-26. Traffic is also expected to be heavy as Texans return home Nov. 30, according to INRIX, a transportation data company.

Minimal traffic is expected on Thanksgiving Day.

More details: Texas drivers will pay about the same for gas as they did last Thanksgiving, according to AAA Texas. One gallon of regular unleaded gas cost about $2.65 in Texas as of Nov. 13, down from $2.69 last year.
