Flower Mound, Highland Village, Argyle delay trash collection because of weather

Trash collections in Flower Mound, Highland Village and Argyle continue to be delayed because of wintry conditions across North Texas.

What you need to know: Republic Services, which collects trash and recycling in Flower Mound, Highland Village and Argyle, will postpone collections in all three communities Jan. 27 after canceling pickups Jan. 26. Recycling and yard waste collections will be delayed until next week, while trash collections will move back one day.

More details: Additionally, officials have modified hours for municipal facilities Jan. 27. 

All municipal facilities in Flower Mound, Highland Village and Argyle will remain closed Jan. 27. Highland Village’s scheduled council meeting Jan. 27 is also canceled.

Bruvana Coffee House opens in Flower Mound

Bruvana Coffee House opened on Flower Mound Road in early January, owner Ali Nawazuddin said.

What's on the menu: The coffee shop offers several coffee drinks, including dirty chai lattes, baklava lattes and strawberry matcha lattes, Nawazuddin said.

Looking ahead: The company tentatively plans to host a grand opening event on Feb. 7, Nawazuddin added.

Flower Mound council approves 65-home Canyon Falls subdivision

A 65-home subdivision within the Canyon Falls development in western Flower Mound is moving ahead.

Flower Mound Town Council unanimously approved the subdivision site plan, which sits on 27 acres, by a 4-0 vote during the Jan. 20 meeting. Council member Chris Drew was absent from the meeting.

The overview: The addition to Canyon Falls will be located near a future intersection at Schmitz Boulevard and Denton Creek Boulevard. Bret Pedigo with Terra Manna, a representative of the applicant Perry Homes, said the developer would be constructing the two roadways and other necessary infrastructure improvements for the subdivision.

According to town documents, the subdivision will include 65 single-family residential lots and six open space lots.

Diving deeper: The 65-home addition will be the final residential subdivision built within Canyon Falls, according to previous reporting. Once built, it will bring the total number of homes within Canyon Falls to 795, which is below the 972-residence cap for the property.

1. Winter Storm Fern continues to hamper flights at Dallas Love Field, DFW Airport

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport leads the United States in cancelled flights as of 10:08 a.m. Jan. 26.

According to Flightaware.com, 349 flights were scheduled to land at DFW Airport, and another 276 were slated to depart from DFW Airport. The number of flights into a destination is the most of any airport in the country, and the combined total is ahead of Boston's Logan Airport by more than 100 flights.

Dallas Love Field Airport has 37 cancellations into Dallas, and 44 flights out of Dallas have been called off.

2. Denton Street

Project: The road has been closed due to reconstruction of the street and replacing water and sewer lines from Hickory Street to Congress Street.

Update: Gas line work from Atmos has delayed the city’s construction on Denton Street. This delay is currently estimated to last until mid-March, with roadway reconstruction to follow.

Roads to see major improvement Tuesday, freezing fog expected mid-week in North Texas

The Dallas-Fort Worth area can expect roads to stay icy until Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. 

The overview: While roads may have melted throughout the day Monday with sunny skies, the DFW metroplex won't see "long-lasting improvement" until Tuesday when highs are expected to be in the upper 30s and 40s, NWS meteorologist Brennen Darrah said. Some ice could linger though on backroads, which may not see improvement until Wednesday into Thursday, he said.
