Boerne council reviews progress, future plans for city mobility projects

Infrastructure projects are underway in the city of Boerne to improve roadways and facilities across the city.

City Council on Jan. 27 reviewed projects in the works and discussed projects coming this year.

The details: City Manager Ben Thatcher told City Council the city is working through sidewalk development projects, including the design of a sidewalk ramp at 463 S. Main St. Thatcher said the ramp project is expected to be completed in March.

The city is also working through a pavement condition analysis, which would help determine which roads require repair in the future. Thatcher said the report is expected to be presented around the end of February.

What they’re saying: Council member Brett Bunker asked about the status of the roundabout on School Street and Johns Road.

Thatcher said the city is focused on the reconstruction of Adler Road, but the utility relocation of the intersection is planned for the summer. The roundabout construction is expected to begin in 2027, but the exact project timeline has not been established.

New specialty cocktail bar, event venue opens in Boerne

A new establishment for specialty cocktails and semi-formal fare has opened its doors in Boerne.

Zooming in: Twelve to Twelve officially opened its doors on Jan. 20 after a brief soft opening, Owner Patricio Penalosa told Community Impact.

It’s located at 1491 S. Main St., adjacent to Pure Country BBQ and Grill and south of the downtown area.

Born and raised in Mexico City, Penalosa said he “fell in love” with Boerne after moving to the area two years ago.

“Eventually, we realized this would be the perfect place for a new spot for people to go,” Penalosa said.

What are the options? The bar is meant to convey a laid-back, "semi-formal" experience for guests, according to Penalosa.

“This is a place where people come to have a really good cocktail,” he said. “We don’t have bartenders, we have mixologists.”

Q&A: Get to know the Texas Republicans running for state comptroller in the March primary

Four Republican candidates are running for Texas comptroller in the upcoming March 3 primary election.

The big picture: Michael Berlanga, Christi Craddick, Kelly Hancock and Don Huffines are seeking the Republican nomination to be Texas' next chief financial officer. The Republican nominee will face the winner of the Democratic primary in November; the winner of that election will be sworn in for a four-year term in January 2027.

The background: The comptroller's office is open after former state comptroller Glenn Hegar stepped down in July to become chancellor of the Texas A&M University System. Former state Sen. Kelly Hancock currently serves as acting state comptroller and is running in the Republican primary, although he is not considered the incumbent in the race.

The comptroller is tasked with overseeing government spending, projecting Texas' biennial budget for state legislators, reporting on statewide economic issues, and managing the state treasury and unclaimed property programs. Hancock's office also recently launched the state’s new education savings account program, as mandated by the Texas Legislature.
