John McCain Road construction starts in Colleyville

Construction began Jan. 5 for the John McCain Road project near the roundabout at Westcoat Drive, according to the Jan. 2 Colleyville e-news email. 

What’s happening?: According to previous reporting, the project includes:

  • Widening the drainage tunnel on Big Bear Creek west of Monticello Parkway
  • Making improvements to the roadway curve along John McCain and Stillwater Circle
  • Replacing the driveway, roadway, curbs, gutters and storm pipes on the bridge

Before you go: The project is expected to take three months to complete, and the bridge will remain closed, according to the email. Local drivers can use Charlottesville Avenue and Monticello Parkway as a detour. Motorists seeking a cut-through to Davis Boulevard are directed to use McDonwell School Road as a detour route.

Madras Mojo offers curries, sweet dishes in Colleyville

Madras Mojo is now serving South Indian dishes in Colleyville.

The gist: The restaurant serves fried chicken, curries and biryani, which is a rice dish with meat or vegetables. Guests can also create their own bowl by choosing a rice, curry, appetizer and salad.

“[Madras Mojo] is set in a warm, stylish and inviting ambience that complements its modern concept while welcoming guests for a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience,” owners Shyamli Pavuluri and Prasanth Pavuluri said. “Madras Mojo aims to become a go-to destination for authentic South Indian flavors.”

Joint restaurant IHOP, Applebees coming to Dallas Love Field Airport

Dallas Love Field Airport will be gaining a new restaurant this month, though an opening date has not been determined, said Lauren Rounds, the external communications and marketing manager for the airport. 

A joint restaurant containing IHOP and Applebees will be located on the public side of the terminal, between the Transportation Security Administration screening area and the baggage claim hallway, she said. 

The diner will be where the former Bruegger’s Bagels was located, which closed in August, Rounds said.

4 updates from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport to celebrate the first flight from the southeast Missouri town to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

Contour Airlines started flights to and from DFW Airport, out of Terminal D, on Dec. 1. The airline connects DFW to several smaller regional airports through the Essential Air Service program, according to a news release.

Zooming in: Frontier Airlines launched two international flights in December from DFW Airport.

Weekly flights to La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City, Guatemala, started Dec. 20.

Two-times-a-week service from DFW Airport to El Salvador International Airport in San Salvador, El Salvador, took off Dec. 21, according to previous reporting. 

A closer look: The Transportation Security Administration announced Dec. 1 that all passengers who do not present an acceptable form of ID and still want to fly will have the option to pay a $45 fee to use TSA ConfirmID.
