Del Webb's Veramendi breaks ground on 12,000-square-foot amenity center

Developers with Del Webb at Veramendi broke ground on the community's amenity center at the end of October, celebrating the milestone with a special ceremony Nov. 6, PulteHomes Marketing Manager Cherri Kuhns said in an email to Community Impact.

Del Webb at Veramendi is a new 55-plus community that broke ground in Q4 of 2023, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

The overview: The 12,000-square-foot amenity center will offer a resort-style pool, fitness center, pickleball and bocce courts, a yoga lawn and walking trails. While construction is underway, residents can enjoy Del Webb’s Lifestyle Haus which is operating as a temporary social hub for residents.

The amenity center is anticipated to be completed by mid-2027, Kuhns said in the email.

Academy Sports + Outdoors now open in New Braunfels

A nationwide sporting goods chain has opened a new location along the I-35 corridor.

The overview: Academy Sports + Outdoors opened in New Braunfels at 159 I-35 S. on Nov. 16, according to a news release. The storefront is next to DD’s Discounts, in the Courtyard Plaza shopping center.

At just a little over 43,000-square-feet, the New Braunfels location is the store's ninth location in the San Antonio region, according to the store's locator. The retailer will bring about 60 jobs to the city, the release states. 

What they offer: Academy Sports + Outdoors sells a wide variety of sporting goods from baseball gloves to soccer cleats and running gear to golf apparel. The retailer also sells hunting and fishing gear.

San Antonio updates film incentive program to attract productions, encourage local talent

To further promote San Antonio to global film and media industries, the San Antonio City Council approved a series of updates to the city’s film incentive program Nov. 6.

What you need to know: According to city documents, improved incentives include renaming the program from the Supplemental San Antonio Incentive to the San Antonio Film Incentive, increasing the base incentive, incentivizing local and veteran hiring practices and expanding eligibility requirements and workforce development.

Shaped by the recent passage of Texas Senate Bill 22, which formed the Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive Fund, the redesigned program will work to attract productions, provide professional development for local talent and encourage local hiring, city documents state.

Managed by the San Antonio Film Commission, the updated incentive program will be combined with the state incentives and will offer up to 45% in rebates for eligible projects. According to city documents, the new program places San Antonio as the most financially competitive city in Texas for film projects.

Hotel Emma, a boutique hotel located within the Pearl, is celebrating its 10th anniversary on Nov. 14.

The details: According to its website, Hotel Emma is a 146-room hotel with seven top-floor suites that include a club room and a bar. The hotel also includes a pool, seven venue spaces that are available for rent, such as the Elephant Cellar, Swiggle Key room and the courtyard; and three eateries: the Larder, Sternewirth and Supper.

Hotel Emma was also one of three Texas hotels that earned a two-key rating from the new Michelin Key hotel guide, which recognizes excellent hotels worldwide.
