Postino to open third location in Westlake

The wine cafe, Postino, is coming to the Village at Westlake late summer 2026.

The overview: Postino offers a large selection of wine, craft cocktails and food, including paninis, salads, bruschetta and charcuterie boards.

This will be Postino’s third cafe in Austin, with other locations in Bryker Woods and South Central Austin.

It will also be the company’s 12th location in the state.

What they’re saying: "Westlake is one of Austin's most established and community-driven neighborhoods, which made it a natural next step for us," Postino Co-founder and CEO Lauren Bailey said. "We've loved growing alongside the Austin community, and this location gives us another space where people can come together over great food, wine and conversation."

Leander ISD previews potential 2026 bond, VATRE

Leander ISD officials are continuing to map out a potential November 2026 bond and voter-approval tax rate election. Chief Operations Officer Jeremy Trimble provided the board of trustees with the latest update July 23.

The big picture: A potential VATRE is tied to operational challenges while the potential bond is tied to capital challenges. LISD is facing pressure on both its maintenance and operations and interest and sinking tax rates, Trimble said. The district also has 10 campuses that will reach its 25-year lifecycle milestone between 2026 and 2030, and 13 campuses reaching that 25-year mark between 2031-35.

On the other hand: Several board members expressed concern that the district would not be ready to go to bond or pass a VATRE by November.

Looking ahead: The Citizens Facility Advisory Committee is slated to present project recommendations at the July 30 board meeting, followed by further board discussion Aug. 6 to address any questions and next steps. The last day to call for a November bond or VATRE is Aug. 17.

Austin leaders eye water conservation measures for major projects as data center growth raises resource concerns

Austin leaders are seeking to mandate long-range water use and conservation plans from facilities that use large amounts of water, like data centers. The proposal comes as City Council is expected to consider several new regulations this summer that could restrict or ban hyperscale data center development in Austin.

“The overall message is that Austin is looking very carefully at water usage, and if you want to use a lot of water you’ll not only have to pay your fair share for water and infrastructure, but you also have to conserve as much as possible," said council member Mike Siegel.

The details: Siegel's resolution approved July 23 would impose new water planning processes for large-volume water users. It also kicks off new public reporting on usage by Austin Water's largest customers. More city policies related to land use, noise regulations and Austin Energy will be considered by council in the near future.
