Live Oak City Council authorizes over $1.8M of EDC funding into city parks

The Live Oak Economic Development Corporation, or EDC, has submitted over $2.4 million in expenditures for a variety of endeavors, mainly concentrated at the Main City Park at 18001 Park Drive.

At the Sept. 30 meeting of Live Oak City Council, the dais approved nine resolutions to authorize Live Oak EDC expenditures related to city parks, with three other resolution items approved on Oct. 14.

Zooming in: Eight items going toward the Main City Park, and another going toward the city's Municipal Pool, were approved on Sept. 30, totaling $1,854,121. The expenditures were budgeted in the 2025-26 fiscal year Economic Development Fund.

"This is something we do every year, we fund some kind of quality of life projects, and we just had this master park plan completed ... [we felt] we could help out in a big way, that way," Donna Lowder, Live Oak economic development director, told Community Impact.

While Tex-Mex and breakfast tacos are abundant throughout San Antonio, Jose Castellanos, owner of Pollo Picosito in Live Oak, said he wanted to put his own twist on the tried-and-true cuisine.

Hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico, Castellanos said he has been in the restaurant and hospitality business for 45 years, managing and owning a variety of eateries for decades.

Castellanos said the main priorities of his restaurant are simple—breakfast tacos in the morning, then puffy tacos and enchiladas for lunch.

“The people of San Antonio love breakfast tacos. Whenever I leave here for a couple days, I already start to miss them myself,” Castellanos said.

Continental USA looks to expand with 65,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in New Braunfels

Continental Autonomous Mobility U.S. is looking to expand its New Braunfels manufacturing facility.

The overview: The expansion project, dubbed Project Nemo, is for an additional 65,000-square-foot manufacturing space. It would add $100 million of appraised value to the site, according to a Sept. 30 New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation, or NBEDC, presentation.

Two incentives, one by the city and one by the NBEDC, are being considered. The proposed city incentive is for a 10-year, 65% property tax abatement on the expanded portion of the facility. The proposed NBEDC incentive would not exceed $300,000 and is similar to the initial project’s incentive, construction fee waivers and roadway impact fees.

Looking ahead: An agenda item proposing to consolidate the initial Chapter 380 agreement into a Chapter 312 tax abatement will be presented to New Braunfels City Council on Oct. 13. There will also be a public hearing on the tax abatement for the Continental property.
