A new bridge installation, new asphalt: See updates on 7 Denton transportation projects

See updates on several recently completed and ongoing projects around Denton.

Completed projects
1. Bernard Street roadway restoration
Project: Bernard Street from West Hickory to West Chestnut Streets will undergo a waterline replacement and roadway restoration, and crews will replace some of the sections of the sidewalk.
Update: Crews are replacing curbs, gutters and driveways ahead of final paving.

2. Mill overlay on Teasley Lane and Shady Oaks Drive
Project: The $1.6 million mill overlay package will replace the top layer of asphalt along specific roadways. Denton City Council approved the project and funding at an April 21 meeting.
Update: Portions of Teasley Lane and Shady Oaks Drive from I-35E to Colorado Boulevard will close while crews replace the road’s top layer of asphalt.

Panda Express to offer orange chicken, more in Denton

Denton could be getting a new Panda Express. 

The details: A new Panda Express location could be constructed on Randall Street, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. 

The construction is estimated to be about $2 million and is projected to start in June next year and be completed in 2028.

On the menu: Panda Express, a fast casual Chinese restaurant, offers orange chicken, broccoli beef, honey walnut shrimp and more.

Live updates: ERCOT will complete data center audit in late 2026, officials say

The Texas House State Affairs Committee heard from power grid officials; data center developers and industry representatives; local government officials; cybersecurity experts; and utility companies during an Aug. 19 hearing on the growth of data centers in the state. Dozens of Texas residents also testified about the impact of data centers in their communities.

The details: Pablo Vegas, CEO of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, said will take the grid operator several months to audit about 200 gigawatts of data center proposals. ERCOT will request information from all large and medium-sized data centers that are expected to use at least 25 megawatts of electricity.

ERCOT and the Public Utility Commission were ordered on Aug. 3 to audit all data centers seeking to connect to Texas’ power grid. They anticipate completing that audit in late November or early December, Vegas said.
