When Margarita Castellanos and her husband Javier opened ALEOLI Me Time Studio in June 2025, they set out for it to be a place for moms and women to unwind and take care of themselves.

The setup: ALEOLI Me Time Studio’s business model centers on parents—specifically moms—bringing their kids to a daycare facility while they relax at an on-site coffee shop or Pilates studio.

“We see a lot of places for dads like bars, pickleball, the many things that they can do, but so limited are the places that the mom can go enjoy their time,” Castellanos said.

The backstory: Originally from El Salvador, Castellanos was inspired to open ALEOLI while she was juggling her life as a parent with getting her degree in business and marketing.

“It was a hard time to balance my personal life from my family, from my kids,” she said. “To be a mom, a wife, a student and then be myself.”

Harris County Attorney Abbie Kamin announced two lawsuits against individuals allegedly stealing homes with fraudulent paperwork during a press conference on Sept. 9.

Current situation: The lawsuits stem from the Harris County Attorney’s Office’s investigations into scammers committing deed fraud, Kamin said. According to a news release, scammers file fraudulent paperwork to obtain deeds to homes, selling or renting them to unsuspecting tenants.

The details: The lawsuits cover 10 homes in Harris County that the County Attorney’s Office alleges have been stolen. The scammers target families of different socioeconomic backgrounds, Kamin said.

Before you go: County residents can check to make sure no transfers have been filed for their home’s deed. If homeowners believe a suspicious filing has been made, they can file a complaint with the County Attorney’s Office.

Three candidates are running to lead the Texas General Land Office in the Nov. 3 election.

The overview: Democrat Benjamin Flores and Libertarian Neill Snider are challenging Republican incumbent Dawn Buckingham for the seat.

Buckingham ran uncontested in the March Republican primary, Community Impact reported, while Flores won the Democratic primary. Snider was selected as the Texas Libertarian Party's candidate during an April nominating convention.

The context: The state land commissioner manages 13 million acres of state lands, with duties such as allocating disaster recovery funds, leasing state lands to generate revenue for the Texas Permanent School Fund, preserving state landmarks such as The Alamo and overseeing several veterans programs.

Looking ahead: Early voting runs from Oct. 19-30 in the midterm election, and Election Day is Nov. 3.
