Bryan ISD approves 2026-27 district improvement plan

Bryan ISD trustees approved the district’s 2026-27 improvement plan Sept. 28, outlining goals for student achievement, college and career readiness, teacher support and retention through 2031.

Mapping it out: According to agenda material, the district aims to increase Meets Grade Level performance in math, reading, science and social studies by 10 percentage points by June 2031. It also seeks to:

  • Increase percentage of graduates meeting at least one College, Career and Military Readiness indicator by 10 percentage points

  • All campuses to implement coaching and accountability framework

  • Teacher retention to increase by at least 8 percentage points

A closer look: Trustees also approved campus improvement plans for the district’s schools.

The campus plans emphasize Tier 1 instruction:

  • Student goal-setting

  • Data monitoring

  • Scheduled intervention

  • Enrichment time

Each campus has an individual improvement plan.

Aerie opens in College Station's Century Square

Six months after its initial announcement, women’s lifestyle clothing retailer Aerie has officially opened its doors in College Station's Century Square.

What Aerie offers: Aerie sells a variety of women’s clothing, including swimwear, activewear and underwear.

The overview: Aerie has had a presence in College Station at Post Oak Mall since 2019, according to public tenant mall documents. Aerie's expansion was announced by Century Square in March with a news release that described it as an exciting new brand for its mixed-use development.

Filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation say the $400,000 project is 4,296 square feet.

The new Aerie location is situated between Lululemon and Houston Hot Chicken. 

Before you go: Century Square’s news release said Aerie is relocating, but there are no announcements about the Post Oak Mall location closing as of this report. According to bankruptcy filings, Aerie’s lease at the mall is scheduled to continue until 2028.

Texas A&M begins 150-year festivities: 10 things to do in Bryan-College Station

On The Transportation Beat
Rehabs, extensions, improvements: 4 Bryan-College Station road updates

Here are four road projects that are coming up or already under construction in the cities of College Station and Bryan, as well as Brazos County, according to city officials and capital improvement project information. This list is not comprehensive.

  • William D. Fitch Parkway Rehabilitation Phase 2: This $7.3 million project in College Station began on Sept. 9 and is scheduled to finish in mid-December. It includes new paving, signage, and culvert and driveway replacements.

  • Lincoln Avenue Rehabilitation: This $12.28 million College Station project reconstructs Lincoln Avenue between Texas Avenue and University Drive. It is set to be completed by the end of the third week of September.

  • Groesbeck Street Extension: This project in Bryan will extend a new 38-foot-wide road between South College and Texas Avenue. The contract cost is $240,070 and meetings with property owners regarding rights-of-way acquisition are continuing.

  • Texas Avenue Infrastructure Improvements: This $26 million Brazos County project aims to improve safety and mobility. Funding delays have pushed the expected start of the first major phase to spring 2028.
