Latin-owned Eden Coffee & Tea to open in Jersey Village area

Eden Coffee & Tea officials said the new coffee shop has plans to open in the Jersey Village area by the end of June, however the opening date is subject to change.

Quote of note: “We want Eden to be more than just a coffee shop. Our focus is on community, hospitality, and creativity. We are preparing Eden to be a place where friendships are built, ideas are shared, and a second home to the community,” officials said.

What to expect: With plans to open by the end of June, Eden Coffee & Tea officials said her vision is to create a space where people can connect, work, study and enjoy handcrafted beverages in a welcoming atmosphere. Per officials, guests can expect espresso based drinks including flavored lattes, cold brews, teas, refreshers and matcha. The coffee shop also plans to offer pastries and light food options.

Trigger Analog Film Lab now developing in Cypress

Home-based boutique film lab Trigger Analog Film Lab opened May 19 in Cypress, founder Tien Nguyen said.

What they offer: TAFL hand-processes customer's film and emails the high resolution Pakon scans back to them.
Pricing varies depending on the development type, but standard charges include:

  • C-41 film development and scanning: $14

  • Disposable camera development and scanning: $15

Until June 30, TAFL is offering grand opening special pricing on their website. For $6 customers are able to receive their negatives back instantly; although TAFL stores clients negatives, and sends them back for free every five roles they send in.

What you need to know: Film photographers are able to ship or drop-off their film once placing their order on the TAFL website. Nguyen said there is no public storefront, but clients will receive the secure, contactless drop-off box address automatically via email following order placement.

ERCOT forecasts record electric demand this summer amid data center boom; says grid will hold up

Texans are on track to use more electricity this summer than ever before, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas announced during a board meeting this week.

The details: ERCOT, which operates the power grid for the majority of Texas, is forecasting high temperatures and moderate rainfall this summer. Coupled with the proliferation of data centers and other large projects, demand on the grid could surpass 92 gigawatts, officials estimated June 2.

This would break ERCOT’s current demand record of 85.5 gigawatts, which was set during an August 2023 heat wave.

What it means: However, ERCOT officials said a grid emergency or blackout is unlikely this summer. State officials have said this is due to:

  • The addition of nearly 11 gigawatts of power capacity to the grid in the last few months
  • The agency's ability to require large facilities to reduce their energy use in tight times

Zooming in: There is a 0.09% chance of a grid emergency this June and a 0.21% chance of an emergency in July, ERCOT found in recent reports.
