Georgetown Customer Service Center joining Southwestern University 560 development in 2028

The Georgetown Customer Service Center, a facility that will centralize several customer-facing city departments, is projected to open in early 2028, Capital Improvements Project Manager Jennifer Bettiol said at an Oct. 14 meeting. The project is in design, and will be a part of the first phase of the Southwestern University 560 development.

About the project: The Customer Service Center will bring together more than 10 city departments, including Customer Care, Planning, Human Resources, engineering departments and inspections departments. There is also the possibility of adding a data center to the building to meet IT demands, Bettiol said.

The city has plans for a 75,567-square-foot building to accommodate a projected 283 employees associated with the Customer Service Center departments in the next 10 years. Preliminary plans also show retail and meeting space.

With a $56 million budget, the building will be funded through a 2023 voter-approved bond.

What else? In collaboration with Southwestern University, Georgetown plans to locate the new facility in the first phase of SU 560.

Texas lawmakers to investigate deadly Central Texas floods with new committees

The Texas House and Senate are launching new legislative committees to “get to the bottom of exactly what occurred” during this summer’s deadly Central Texas floods, state leaders announced Oct. 13.

The details: The bipartisan panels, known as the House and Senate General Investigating Committees on the July 2025 Flooding Events, will meet jointly to conduct “a comprehensive and thorough review” of the floods, House Speaker Dustin Burrows and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said.

Lawmakers will be tasked with:

  • Identifying strategies to strengthen Texas’ disaster preparedness
  • Helping communities respond to future floods
  • Examining actions taken at summer camps in the flood zone

The background: During special legislative sessions this summer, lawmakers passed bills aimed at hardening summer camps against future disasters and improving local flood warning systems.

"While progress was made during the second special session to bolster Texans’ safety, the magnitude of this tragedy demands a comprehensive and thorough review," Burrows said in an Oct. 13 statement.
