Hutto moves forward with CR 137 roundabout project

Plans for a new roundabout near CR 137 and FM 1660 in Hutto are in the works, as City Council approved grant funding for the project during a March 12 meeting.

The gist: The project, which is being led by the Hutto Economic Development Corporation, includes the construction of a roundabout and additional lanes at the intersection of CR 137 and FM 1660. The project is meant to help traffic flow better along the two roadways.

Road widening, pedestrian improvements and the addition of a center turn lane is also expected for CR 137, running north of Brushy Creek to FM 1660. Some improvements to pedestrian paths and drainage is also planned for a small portion of FM 1660.

In a 4-1 vote, Hutto City Council approved $11.2 million in economic development grant funding for the project. Place 4 City Council member Peter Gordon voted against the measure, citing concerns about “running [the project] through the EDC,” as he said that avenue had not been fully vetted by the city’s legal department.

April 2 voter registration deadline nears for Hutto City Council, school board races

Hutto voters have until April 2, 2026, to register or update their information ahead of a May 2 election that will decide City Council seats and Hutto ISD board positions.

What you should know: Texas requires voters to be registered about 30 days before election day. Missing the deadline could prevent eligible residents from casting a ballot, unless they qualify for a limited ballot during early voting.

Key dates include:

  • April 2: voter registration deadline
  • April 20-28: early voting
  • May 2: election day (7 a.m.-7 p.m.)

Williamson County has not yet mailed 2026 voter registration cards, but voters do not need the card to vote. A valid photo ID is required at polling places.

Residents can check registration status, find polling locations and view sample ballots at the state election website.

Williamson County has 456,069 registered voters.

'Future of aviation': Air taxi testing coming to Austin under federal pilot program

Test flights for electric aviation services like air taxis will soon be taking off across the state, including in Austin, following the Texas Department of Transportation's selection for a Federal Aviation Administration pilot program this month.

The details: The federal initiative stems from a 2025 executive order from President Donald Trump to advance aviation systems including unmanned drones and electric vertical takeoff and landing, or eVTOL, aircraft. The FAA selected eight eVTOL pilot projects across the country under that order, including TxDOT's, which are now expected to kick off this summer.

TxDOT is partnering with four aviation companies to launch eVTOL air taxi flights and other services between Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston and smaller communities. The phased project is expected to start this year.

What else: While Austin developed its own proposal spearheaded by locally based LIFT Aircraft, that outline wasn't selected by the federal agency.

Beyond Pompeii Pizza serves up family-style pies in Leander

Independently run and family-owned, Beyond Pompeii Pizza is a “true mom-and-pop shop.” Owner Bob Khan had one rule when he dreamed of opening a restaurant: make it for families, run by family, everything family. More than a decade after immigrating from India and settling in Leander, he and his family made it happen.

The family put their Indian heritage on the menu. The Palak Paneer pizza features spinach, Indian cottage cheese, tomatoes, ginger, garlic, green chilies and a spice blend. Sides include chicken wings, cheesy bread and lava rocks, which are garlic butter and Parmesan bread bites, and the menu showcases a selection of Blue Bell ice cream for dessert.
