Georgetown City Council gave preliminary approval Aug. 25 to adjust speed limits on Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Westinghouse Road, as well as in school zones on Hwy. 195 and Woodlake Drive.

What you need to know: On Ronald Reagan Boulevard between Somerset Hills Drive and Above and Beyond Way, city staff recommended reducing the speed limit from 65 mph to 55 mph.

For Westinghouse Road, city staff proposed extending the 45 mph speed limit through the end of the city limits.

Georgetown officials plan to adopt a 35 mph limit between Chi Chi Drive and Shell Road along Hwy. 195. Lastly, city officials plan to relocate the school zone on Woodlake Drive due to driveway construction, according to city documents.

What’s next: The speed limit adjustments will go into effect after final adoption at the next City Council meeting Sept. 8.

Another Nine, an indoor golf entertainment center, will open in The Junction corporate and entertainment park in December, franchise owner Soham Thakker said. 

About the business: The indoor golf center features private simulation suites powered by Trackman technology, which includes over 300 courses, Thakker said. The center will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Additionally, a membership is not required to play, he said. 

According to the website, there are three locations open and 71 locations in the development process.

Two candidates are listed on the Nov. 3 ballot for Williamson County treasurer. D. Scott Heselmeyer has held the position since 2017, and is not seeking reelection.

The Treasury Department manages funds for the county, and primary duties of the position include maintaining financial accounts and distributing funds as directed by county commissioners.

Early voting for the Nov. 3 election runs from Oct. 19-30.

Since late May, all autonomous vehicle companies have been required to receive authorization from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles to operate on Texas roads. During an Aug. 25 hearing, state senators heard the first testimony on autonomous vehicle safety since the new regulations took effect.

The overview: To date, the DMV has received 42 complaints about driverless vehicles, officials said.

No complaints have led the agency to suspend or revoke an autonomous vehicle operator's authorization. That occurs "when the operation has resulted in or is likely to result in serious bodily injury," according to Corrie Thompson, who leads the DMV’s enforcement division.

Zooming in: Lawmakers said they wanted to ensure driverless vehicles were not rolling out too quickly, adding that they hoped the vehicles would help address Texas' high rate of fatal crashes.

Lt. William White, who leads the Austin Police Department’s highway enforcement division, said first responders have seen consistent issues with AVs, including when a Waymo blocked an ambulance for about 28 seconds following the deadly March 1 Sixth Street shooting.
