Several roads in Denton are closed for construction, including part of Bonnie Brae Street and Mulberry Street, according to a May 22 city of Denton staff report.

Take a look at five road closures around the city. This list is not comprehensive.

Bonnie Brae Street: Bonnie Brae Street is closed from Riney Road to US 77 while crews build new southbound lanes. Bonnie Brae Street currently is undergoing a seven-phase renovation project that started in 2017. The project’s total cost across all seven phases is $146 million, according to city data.

The closure between US 77 and Riney Road is part of the project’s sixth phase. The closed segment is scheduled to reopen in late July, according to the city staff report. City officials expect to complete the sixth phase in April 2027.

Denton ISD offers free breakfast, lunch to students during summer months

Denton ISD now has free breakfast and lunch meals for district students during the summer break.

The context: Denton ISD Child Nutrition will have the free meals for kids 18 and under at select campuses within the distinct, according to a DISD social media post.

The meals are served daily during weekdays, and kids do not need to sign up to receive the breakfast or lunch options. However, kids must be on-site to receive the meals, according to the district.

There will be eight DISD campuses offering breakfast and/or lunch. The majority of the campuses will have these offerings through the end of July.

Art Wheel Studio Art School rebrands in Roanoke, continues traditional fine arts training

Art Wheel Studio Art School LLC rebranded in Roanoke, continuing its mission of providing classical-style arts education rooted in traditional European fine art techniques for students of all ages, an April 22 social media post from the Metroport Chamber states.

The rebranding was marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the chamber, facility tours and a raffle with giveaways.

The details: According to the company’s website, Art Wheel Studio Art School LLC teaches drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media using European “Old Master” techniques with individualized instruction.

The studio offers courses in watercolor, oil, gouache, sculpture, charcoal and pastel, and students have the opportunity to enter in local, national and international competitions.

Founder Liliana Nedzelska began teaching art in 2004 from her home in Keller before expanding into after-school programs and library instruction.

She later launched Art Wheel Studio in Roanoke in 2015 with her son, Stanislav Nedzelsky, according to previous reporting.

Texas’ statewide elections are set for November. Here are the candidates on the ballot.

Texas’ primary election season came to a close May 26 as candidates declared victory in dozens of federal, state and local runoff races.

The latest: The winner of each runoff will advance to the Nov. 3 general election, joining candidates who won their primaries outright in March.

Voters will see 18 statewide contests on the November ballot, alongside all congressional seats, most state legislative seats, eight State Board of Education seats and a variety of local positions.

On the ballot: 

  • U.S. Senate: Attorney General Ken Paxton and state Rep. James Talarico
  • Governor: Greg Abbott (incumbent) and state Rep. Gina Hinojosa
  • Lieutenant governor: State Rep. Vikki Goodwin and Dan Patrick (incumbent)
  • Attorney general: State Sens. Nathan Johnson and Mayes Middleton
  • Comptroller: State Sen. Sarah Eckhardt and businessman Don Huffines
  • Land commissioner: Dawn Buckingham (incumbent) and Bay City council member Benjamin Flores
  • Agriculture commissioner: Businessman Nate Sheets and rancher Clayton Tucker
  • Railroad commissioner: Former Tarrant County GOP Chair Bo French and state Rep. Jon Rosenthal
