Looking for ways to give back in Bastrop County? Here are five local nonprofits recently highlighted by Community Impact that are seeking support.

1. Jack of Hearts: Help fund trade scholarships for Bastrop County graduates pursuing careers in welding, plumbing, electrical work and other trades.

2. Wildlife Rescue of Central Texas: Support the nonprofit as it builds out a permanent wildlife rehabilitation facility in Bastrop.

3. Bastrop Live Music Foundation: Help expand local music programs through donations, volunteering or the nonprofit’s Oct. 23 fundraiser.

4. Feed the Need Missions: Support free weekly meals through volunteering, donations or the nonprofit’s Sept. 12 gala.

5. Rhizome Revival: Help the Bastrop educational farm build an outdoor classroom and expand hands-on learning opportunities.

Bastrop residents have a new local option for skin checks, medical dermatology and cosmetic treatments.

A closer look: Westlake Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery’s first Bastrop clinic is now treating clients in the Sendero mixed-use development.

The clinic offers medical dermatology, red light photodynamic therapy and cosmetic services such as chemical peels, microneedling and nonsurgical hair loss treatment.

Several transportation projects across the Austin metro are moving forward, with new construction, funding and schedule updates.

1. Hays County secured more than $39 million in federal funding for a planned $49 million Centerpoint Road overpass over the Union Pacific Railroad crossing. The project is in the right-of-way acquisition and final design stages.

2. In Pflugerville, construction on Parkway Drive is expected to begin in mid-September following City Council’s approval of a $3.1 million construction contract. Work is scheduled through July 2027.

3. The MoPac South expansion in Austin is now estimated to cost $1.3 billion, an increase of more than $400 million. The project would add express lanes and shared-use paths between Cesar Chavez Street and Slaughter Lane.

4. Round Rock’s Red Bud Lane North widening remains on schedule despite weather delays.

5. Construction continues on Cedar Park’s Toro Grande Boulevard improvements.

6. Final asphalt paving has begun in Buda on Middle Creek Drive following substantial completion in August.

Voters will choose the ACC Board of Trustees, Place 3 representative on Nov. 3, with early voting running Oct. 19-30.
