City of Katy residents had the opportunity to share opinions on the city’s current sign ordinance at a Sept. 23 workshop requested by Mayor Pro Tem Gina Hicks and council member Paul Follis. 

The background: The workshop stemmed from American Furniture Warehouse's request for the use of a digital sign. While considering the application, Hicks said she found out churches and schools also wished to have digital signs. 

“I wanted to just take a look at what our sign ordinance was and if it made sense and also get transparent, public feedback on where the community stands on this sign ordinance and what changes they are for or they are against,” Hicks said.

Next steps: No action was taken during the workshop. However, Hicks said updating the sign ordinance would come back during a City Council meeting as either a discussion or action item in the next month or two. 

MK Dental Studio has opened its doors in Fulshear, owner Madiha Khanani confirmed.

The framework: The studio provides general, cosmetic, pediatric, tooth replacement, Invisalign, emergency and preventive dentistry options, according to its website.

What to expect: Khanani said MK Dental Studio was “built with the patient’s comfort in mind” by offering a coffee bar, snacks, beverages and a play area. 

From what Khanani describes as a “comfort menu,” patients can choose whether they want a blanket, lip balm, specialty towels, headphones and a movie or TV show to watch during their appointment.

The Fort Bend Teen Service League, a mentoring program of the Fort Bend Junior Service League, is celebrating 20 years of service and leadership development, officials announced in a Sept. 15 news release.

In a nutshell: The organization is open to women in seventh to 12th grade who reside in Fort Bend County and share an interest in volunteering, serving others and developing their leadership skills, per the release.

Teen members are given opportunities to participate in hands-on service, philanthropy, educational programs and cultural experiences.

In case you missed it: The Fort Bend Junior Service League, a women-led philanthropic organization, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2025.

According to the latest report from the Houston Association of Realtors (HAR), renters across the Greater Houston area are experiencing slight decreases in rent rates as the supply of units remains steady.

The breakdown: HAR officials stated in a Sept. 16 update that the continual availability of rental units has helped stabilize rent costs, with the rental market remaining well-balanced in August.

The report highlights the following key trends for August:

• The number of available rental units jumped nearly 5% year over year.

• The average cost of rent saw a small decrease.

• Townhome and condominium renters experienced the opposite trend, with average costs increasing by 2.4% year over year.

• The number of available townhome and condominium units on the market decreased as more renters filled those spaces.
