After Pearland Mayor Kevin Cole announced he would run for Brazoria County judge, which was won by Rob Giesecke in the Republican primary race for county judge, two candidates stepped up to run for the office of mayor in the upcoming May 2 election.

$5.3M of upgrades completed at Challenger 7 Memorial Park

Community leaders and the public met Feb. 28 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Challenger 7 Memorial Park in Webster to celebrate the completion of $5.3 million in upgrades to enhance the park.

The details: The upgrades include a fully renovated boardwalk, new overlook pavilions, a floating kayak launch, boat ramp improvements and additional walking trails. 

Why it matters: The ribbon-cutting was attended by dignitaries, including Adrian Garcia, Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner; Rahman Milton, executive director of the Office of the County Engineer; and Bernard Harris, the first African American astronaut to walk in space, according to the release.

The project: The project broke ground in February 2025 and was paid for by Harris County and a grant from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, according to previous reporting from Community Impact.

The Best Stop Cajun Market in Katy operates both as a marketplace and a deli, where customers can shop through products such as signature spices and products the brand has developed and sells.

Customers can also pick up fresh food to take out or dine in, with breakfast, lunch and dinner options available.

The Cajun market was originally established in Scott, Louisiana, nearly 40 years ago, and has since established five other locations, with the Katy location opening in December 2023.
