NBEDC grants economic incentive extension for Co-Op Marketplace developers

Developers for the Co-Op Marketplace, a 2.5-acre mixed-use project on Castell Ave. in downtown New Braunfels, hope to start construction next year.

Once complete, the Co-Op Marketplace will consist of about 27,000 square feet of leasable space. About 13,000 square feet of that space will be dedicated to a public market for local small businesses.

The overview: The New Braunfels Economic Development Corp. granted a five-year extension for performance deadlines outlined in the development’s incentive agreement during a regular meeting on Oct. 15.

A $4.5 million incentive agreement, approved by City Council in 2024, outlined several public improvement requirements to be completed by Dec. 31. No incentives have been paid to the project, according to the presentation.

Developers requested the five-year extension due to rising capital costs, tenancy issues and project redesigns, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

Project construction has not progressed beyond initial demolition. Mike Myers, one of the project's investors, said construction would take about a year.

Pullman dining car renovations completed at New Braunfels Railroad Museum

The New Braunfels Railroad Museum reopened its newly renovated dining car on Sept. 25.

What you need to know

The Pullman dining car is a space groups can rent out for events. Volunteers repainted, refurnished and redecorated the car. They also added displays to educate attendees about the history of the dining car.

New Braunfels Railroad Museum board members said the car is meant to replicate an immersive 1920s parlor car experience.

"We're trying to make the museum experiential," Board Treasurer Mike Bean said. "Instead of 'Look, don't touch,' we're inviting people to look and touch and experience."

The history: Pullman Car Co. originally built the car in 1922. The New Braunfels Railroad Museum acquired the dining car in May 2009, a purchase funded by an endowment from Doyle P. Bond, according to its website. The car moved to the museum site in May 2010 and was prepared by volunteers to be used as an event space.

Terminal construction to add 18 gates at San Antonio International Airport

The San Antonio International Airport, or SAT, just passed the halfway point in the construction timeline for Terminal C, a project that will add 18 domestic and international gates to the facility.

Current situation: Since its groundbreaking in December 2024, construction remains on schedule for a 2028 opening. The project is approaching a key milestone this week with the installation of the final structural beam, Senior Public Information Officer Ana Flores said.

What to expect: Spanning over 850,000 square feet, the new terminal will have an overall design tailored to showcase San Antonio’s regional culture and hospitality, Flores said. The terminal will have:

  • A centralized security screening checkpoint

  • Expanded international arrivals processing

  • 41,000 square feet of dining and retail space

  • Updated airline lounges

Work is also progressing on the Terminal C parking garage and ground transportation center. The seven-story garage will introduce about 2,600 parking spaces and connect directly to the terminal with a covered, climate-controlled walkway. The new ground transportation hub will centralize ride-booking services to ease curbside traffic congestion, Flores said.
