Q&A: Resolute Baptist Hospital welcomes familiar face as new CEO

Resolute Baptist Hospital in New Braunfels welcomed a new CEO in mid-January.

Genifer Rucker, who previously served as the CEO of Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels, began her new role mid-January.

In her previous experience with Christus Santa Rosa and now Resolute Baptist, Rucker said the New Braunfels community is focused on access to care close to home—something that she anticipates will continue to be a growing sentiment as the city grows.

Check out this Q&A to learn more.

Why did you decide to pursue the CEO role with Resolute Baptist Hospital in New Braunfels?
The New Braunfels community means a great deal to me personally. My mother’s family has lived in New Braunfels for six generations, and I now live here with my own family. As a health care leader and resident of this community, I understand how important it is for families to have access to high quality care close to home.

Kyle private microschool to expand with San Marcos relocation

A secular private microschool servicing students from pre-K to eighth grade is set to expand its operations for the 2026-27 school year, relocating from Kyle to San Marcos.

The overview: Godfrey Learning Academy started as a small private school in founder Ashlynn Godfrey’s home. The school size grew from eight to 24 kids, requiring the move to a larger space.

Additionally, the academy recently became accredited and accepts Texas Education Freedom Accounts, or TEFA funding, resulting in the enrollment increase, Godfrey said. Half of the school’s students utilize TEFA funding

“We [provide] individualized, hands-on learning,” Godfrey said. “Our families really like us because we have a community-type feel.”

The details: The school is almost full for the 2026-27 school year, Godfrey said. There are three available spots in the kindergarten-through-second-grade classroom.

Godfrey Learning Academy is owned and operated by certified teachers. The academy is one of the few secular private schools in the area, holding cultural heritage months for students.

From tracks to trade: Historic Buda train depot undergoes shift to promote local businesses

Since its return to downtown in late 2025, Buda’s historic train depot has seen significant changes in both its physical appearance and practical use. The structure will soon house the city’s newest economic development project, The Depot on Main.

The interior of the train depot will be converted into a retail business incubator and community marketplace, according to the Buda Economic Development Corp., or BEDC. Participating business owners will have access to below-market-rate retail space to establish themselves in the city and grow their consumer base.

Quote of note: “It’s an opportunity for home-based businesses or startups to have a presence on Main Street at below market rental rate for a shorter period of time,” BEDC CEO Jennifer Storm said.

The program will prepare owners for a full-rent retail space and allow them to test their products in the market, Storm said. One-to-two-year leases will be available.
