Hays County no longer considering Kyle Vista Park or city of Kyle for Eastside Campus

On June 23, the Hays County Commissioners Court voted to no longer consider Kyle Vista Park as a potential location for the approximately $65 million Eastside Campus administrative facility.

In addition to no longer considering the location, the commissioners voted to terminate a September 2025 memorandum of understanding, or MOU, with the city of Kyle in relation to the potential lease of the Kyle Vista Park property.

The big picture: The county will begin looking for a new location outside of the city’s jurisdiction to develop the three-story building facility. The Eastside Campus development would house a total of 175 staff members and a variety of services on the east side of Hays County.

Hammer referenced the contention in the city of Kyle, noting that leadership has changed since the MOU was first adopted. Community feedback during the location consideration process played a large role in the decision to no longer consider Kyle Vista Park as well, Precinct 3 Commissioner Morgan Hammer said.

‘Years in the making’: 150-acre Zipp Family Sports Park opens in New Braunfels

After 20 years of planning and three years of construction, Zipp Family Sports Park is ready for some action.

Look at this: The Zipp Family Sports Park can accommodate youth, recreational, competitive and tournament play across multiple sports. New Braunfels City Manager Robert Camareno said the park gives them the ability to hold regional and statewide tournaments while increasing visitor spending, benefiting local hotels, restaurants and businesses.

The park is named after the Zipp family, who sold 123.5 acres to the city in 2017 and later donated an additional 25 acres to make the project happen.

Tim Zipp said their ancestor, Johann Jacob Zipp, arrived from Germany about 180 years ago seeking opportunity. The 25-acre property had been a family ranch where relatives lived, worked and created “lasting memories,” Tim Zipp said.

Funding for the $41.1 million park was supported by voters in two city bond elections, a Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, or TPWD, grant and the New Braunfels Economic Development Corp., or NBEDC.
