Grapevine-Colleyville ISD officials approve Jason Adams as new superintendent

After starting a search for a new superintendent candidate in February, Grapevine-Colleyville ISD trustees approved the contract for a new permanent superintendent, Jason Adams.

Adams’ contract was unanimously approved by trustees during the June 15 meeting.

“I am truly grateful for this opportunity to serve this community,” Adams said. “I look forward to working alongside of you, and beginning this work, which officially starts tomorrow morning.”

How we got here: Trustees named Adams, who previously worked as a deputy superintendent in Garland ISD, the lone finalist May 21. State law requires districts to wait at least 21 days after naming a lone finalist to approve the hire.

Quote of note: “GCISD has a long tradition of excellence and I am grateful to join a district that has a solid foundation that’s already been built,” Adams said.

Grapevine-based Tommy Tamale rebrands as Atomic Tamales and Tacos

Tommy Tamale rebranded as Atomic Tamales and Tacos in late April for all its locations, a company representative said.

The overview: The rebrand comes as the Grapevine location undergoes a complete remodel and adds a full bar and new menu items, a social media post states. Atomic Tamales also offers catering and delivery services.

What's on the menu: The family-owned Tex-Mex restaurant offers a variety of tamales, bowls, nachos, quesadillas, burritos and other tamale-based dishes, according to its website.

The menu includes meat and vegetarian tamale plates, the Tommy Bowl, Atomic Tommy Pie, grilled burritos and various quesadillas.

Some context: According to previous reporting, owner Steve Barker founded the business in 2010 by selling tamales from his truck in Decatur before bringing the concept to the Grapevine Farmers Market. Barker and his wife, JoAnn, later opened a small storefront in Grapevine, helping grow the business into a local brand with locations in Grapevine and Coppell.
