Round Rock ISD in 'final stages' of bond-funded bus fleet refresh

Round Rock ISD is close to wrapping up a full replacement of its bus fleet, the district announced in July. 

In a nutshell: The district provided an update to the community via its website July 3, stating that RRISD's transportation department is in the "final stages" of replacing its fleet of 65 buses using 2024 bond funds. 

Why now? The replacement comes as a new law requires all school buses to have three-point seatbelts by September 2029. The mandate comes from Senate Bill 546, approved during the state's 2025 legislative session.

Data shows uptick in Northwest Austin home sales in June

The median price of homes sold in Northwest Austin increased year over year in June, according to data provided by Unlock MLS.

The overview: Five out of seven ZIP codes in Northwest Austin saw an increase in the median sales price in June, compared to June 2025.

While prices rose, the number of home sales saw an uptick, from 112 closings in June 2025 to 133 this June. Homes under contract, or pending sales, also rose from 106 to 119. 

Diving deeper: Looking at the Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos Metropolitan Statistical Area, Unlock MLS data shows the median price saw a year-over-year increase by 1.1%.

The market saw little change in home sales, rising by less than 1%. However, pending sales increased by 13.2%. Throughout Travis County, pending sales rose by 16.7%, and Williamson County’s pending sales increased by 14.5%.

Atomic Wings now open in Leander's Southbrook Station

Atomic Wings is now serving wings, fried chicken and more in Leander’s Southbrook Station. The chain opened its doors for business July 15, co-owner Varaprasad Patchava confirmed.

What they offer: Atomic Wings offers a range of classic dishes, including chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders and fries. Other snacks include mozzarella cheese sticks, fried oreos and loaded fries. The restaurant is halal-friendly.

The national chain has multiple locations across Texas, including one in Plano and several in the Houston area.

As storms returned, Central Texas residents were still rebuilding from floods 1 year earlier

Sandy Creek resident Georgia Bishop was out of town when 22 inches of rain fell on parts of northwest Travis County over the July 4, 2025, weekend. When Bishop returned home days later, her community was significantly changed.

What happened: Residents of the hard-hit Sandy Creek neighborhood described a “wall of water” that tore through their community last July, washing away homes, cars and roads. Nine people died in the flooding, including Bishop’s best friend, 16-year-old Felicity Jarmon.

The context: One year later, residents of the unincorporated Travis County community are still working to rebuild from last July’s catastrophic flooding. Central Texas has seen two straight years of intense, deadly flooding in July, leaving some residents on edge as they recover from last year’s disaster and mourn lost loved ones.

Community Impact spoke with Bishop and Kylie Nidever, whose neighborhood in Hunt flooded last year, on July 13, days before heavy rainfall hit large swaths of the state once again. Officials confirmed two deaths due to this year's floods, while 137 people died last July.
