Take a 'turkey tour': Visit McKinney launches interactive inflatable turkey map

🦃 McKinney residents and visitors can now partake in a self-guided tour of a Thanksgiving attraction in the city: inflatable turkeys.

Officials from Visit McKinney, the city’s convention and visitors bureau, announced the launch of the McKinney Inflatable Turkey Map in a Nov. 4 news release. The organization’s announcement also highlighted the city’s new self-proclaimed title of the Inflatable Turkey Capital of Texas.

The gist: The new map is an interactive guide that directs interested parties to displays of inflatable turkeys across the city, with many concentrated in the Historic Downtown area. The map listings may also include the name and backstory of each inflatable turkey.

The context: The title of Inflatable Turkey Capital of Texas is intended to be a playful title that highlights the community’s growing annual tradition of showcasing inflatable turkeys during the Thanksgiving holiday season, according to the release.

Cheba Hut to serve sandwiches, salads in McKinney

🥪 McKinney’s first Cheba Hut is opening its doors in November, according to a news release.

The gist: The restaurant will serve a variety of appetizers, sandwiches, salads and desserts, according to its website. Cheba Hut's sandwich menu includes more than 30 signature submarine sandwiches. The location will also feature a full service bar that serves craft beer and liquor.

Collin County voters maintain support for creating emergency services district

See unofficial voting results from a Collin County election that will determine if an emergency service district will be created to serve residents in select unincorporated parts of the county.

The context: If approved, the created district would have an associated property tax that would be used to fund fire protection and ambulance services to residents within the district’s boundaries. The district’s boundaries would include the extraterritorial jurisdiction of multiple cities, including McKinney, Prosper, Celina, Melissa, Princeton and more.

Property taxes, bail rules, water funding: All 17 Texas propositions projected to pass

As of press time, all 17 constitutional amendments on the Texas ballot were poised to become law. The state propositions with the most support would either expand property tax exemptions or prohibit new taxes, while voters also favored measures aimed at funding infrastructure and research.

The overview: Some of the state propositions on the ballot included:

  • Proposition 1: new funding to support the Texas State Technical College System
  • Proposition 3: tighter restrictions on when Texas judges can grant bail for felony offenses
  • Proposition 4: $20 billion for water supply projects and infrastructure
