🖥️ Council adopts new data center rules
San Antonio City Council voted 9-2 Oct. 29 to adopt new data center regulations that give council a say over every new application.
Developers must now obtain a specific use authorization from council rather than build by right, and projects are limited to commercial or industrial zones.
🏗️ Arena infrastructure stays in the 2027 bond
Council rejected two proposed changes Oct. 29 to how $35 million in arena-related downtown infrastructure is paid for in the 2027 bond program.
Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones' amendment to move the money out of the bond and into the Project Finance Zone failed 4-6 with one abstention, and her proposal to make it a separate ballot proposition failed 5-6. Council went on to approve a $650 million bond package that goes to voters in May.
🚗 Emissions testing begins in Bexar County
Mandatory vehicle emissions testing in Bexar County took effect Nov. 1, and a failed test could require repairs before a driver can renew a vehicle registration.
Councilmember Misty Spears said in an Oct. 30 release that she is pressing state and federal officials for relief and that the EPA is willing to reconsider the county's nonattainment status.

Schertz's Transportation Safety Advisory Commission is scheduled to consider several traffic-safety requests at its Nov. 5 meeting.

🗳️ Planning to vote in Texas on Tuesday, Nov. 3? Here's what to know before heading to the polls.
Texas polls are open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for a ballot that includes the U.S. Senate race, all 38 U.S. House seats and the governor's race, plus several statewide, legislative and local offices. Counties set their own rules, so some let voters cast ballots at any local site while others assign voters to specific precincts.
Voters need one of seven approved photo IDs. Those without one may be able to sign a reasonable impediment declaration and show alternate documentation. Mail-in voting is limited to specific groups, including voters 65 or older and those who are sick or disabled, and mailed ballots must be submitted or postmarked by 7 p.m. Nov. 3.
"As we approach Election Day, I want Texans to know that their confidence in this process is well founded," Secretary of State Robert Howden said in an Oct. 27 news release. Read more. →
